What is your favorite gun that you own
« on: August 22, 2022, 07:43:19 AM »
I will have to list 2. My original 1873 Winchester that was made in 1882, making it 140 years old, I shoot it
in the originals class. I had it relined and new springs, smooth as silk and reeks of history. #2 is my Shiloh
Sharps 45/90. When I really got into the buffalo shoots, I got to shoot one and feel in love with it, and
then had to order one. The guys at Ackley helped me develop a good load, and have done very well in
competition with it.

I'll pick two.

My Leech & Rigdon .36cal that I had Ottawa Creek Bill work on, smoothing it out and toning down the finish. I sent it off to have "Leech & Rigdon" engraved on the top strap like the originals, then refinished the grips in an oil finish. Funny thing is I have sold it TWICE, but it has always found its way back to me. The second time with a nicely fitted and finished conversion cylinder, courtesy of Oklahoma Tom.

Closely followed by my early production Uberti .36cal Remington Navy. This was one of the lucky finds at Red River Trade's table at the annual NCOWS Congress and Convention. These were manufactured on a smaller frame like on originals, rather than later production Navy's from Uberti that use the larger frame of the .44cal. but with .36cal cylinder and barrel. This just seems to fit better in my hand and does not have the tendency to beat up my middle finger as many Remington will do.

I have a couple of favorites.  One is a 5 1/2 38WCF Colt that belonged to my Grandfather, the other is a 5 1/2 .45 Colt that started life as a NRA Centennial and had the back strap engraved to me by my Dad as a college graduation gift. The late Goatneck Clem, who was a close friend in college, did an action job on it.  And about 15 years ago my wife and kids had Nutmeg Sports put a set of 1 piece Ivories on it for me for Christmas. I guess I will add one more, I have a '73 Winchester 38 WCF made about 1900, that has become my main match rifle.

I could probably list 4 or 5 but in keeping with the title of this thread, my absolute favorite is my late production "Pre-War", 4-3/4" 45 Colt by USFA, with the black powder frame. It reminds me so much of the original 1st Gen Colts I owned. And after over 1000 rounds of full power, black powder 45 Colt ammunition fired through it it's even starting to look like them a bit. No safe queen this one! Since I can't post pictures here a member kindly posted the photo you see in my AVATAR. This gun is the bottom one in that picture.

Mine is my Uberti Henry in 44-40.    I have been a fan of Henry rifles since 1976.   On my 10th birthday, my folks got me the Old West series from Time Life.    I had left subtle hints for months.    First book is Gunfighters and it had a picture of a iron frame Henry.   It spoke to me.  I did a deep dive on finding out about them.  Then in college, Silverado came out.  It was a house favorite.   Fast forward to late 90s, we are in New Orleans for our 10th Anniversary.   Antique gun shop in the French Quarter had a real Henry.   Bargain price of $28,000.   I drooled over it and visited it 4 times during our stay.  Few months later we are going to Vegas, in the banter on the plane, I told my wife if we win enough, I am buying a Henry.   She agreed, thinking we would never win enough that my portion would cover 28K.  Well, I had maybe not told her they made replicas.   We won, and on the plane I explained that I would be ordering a Henry.  After I explained that I was getting a new replica, she felt I had done a bit of a con on her.    I have the Henry, but she asks way more questions of clarification.

It is hard to narrow them down, but my hands down favorite is my Shiloh Sharps number 3 in .45-2.4, which I have had a lot of fun shooting next to my pard BTB!!!  For handguns, probably my Merwin and Hurlburt seven shot .32 M&H.  Plus my Colt 3rd Gen .45 SAA.

My favorite gun, though I hardly ever shoot it is an 1862 Pocket Police conversion. I had the conversion done by Millington. It is a very nice gun and the contours are pure art to me. Next favorite, that I don't have, would be a 1861 Navy conversion. I don't have the money to put one of those together now but it would be a nice companion to the Pocket Police.

Well I can't pick one, it has to be two, because they are a matched pair.  My Laster-engraved charcoal blued Turnbull CC'd Tru-Ivory gripped '51 Richards-Masons (Cimarron Uberti).  4000 rounds through each so far, probably 50/50 smokeless/BP.  They sat in the safe the last few years due to triggers too light, but I recently got them worked on and back in service.  They shoot as good as they look.  I'll be posting the "story" of these soon on the STORM forum.

After that, probably my 8" nickle Python.  :)

 :)  Oh Well  ;)

My "Favorite" has to be a pair.  1871/72 Open Tops.  They started out as the guns sent 'round to all the scribes.  I stumbled into 'em.  Chambered 45 Schofield.  Then I added sufficient parts to add 38 Special and 44 Special to those guns.  Super versatile.

Ah heck, then I have to add my custom built 19 inch Henry

And then there is > > > > > >

Hard to pick a single favorite, but tops would likely be Uberti 1866 & 1876 rifles.

I love all of mine.  I have soo many, and they all shoot good - more accurate than me.  The ones I like best are Schofield, Taurus Gaucho both in 45 Colt and 7.5" barrels, my 2each .36 1851 Navy's, 1873 and 1860 in 45 Colt.  For pocket pistol I like my .38 Lemon Squeezer and 1841 .31.

Walker Colt by Uberti.
Dunno, but there is something there. Shooting wise it is not on top of the list but brings most smiles per trigger pull.

Can't say that I have a favorite, but I do have a few that are NOT my favorites, but I'll keep them.

My favorite is my 1851 Navy Percussion. It's the first Revolver I ever bought and it got me into Cowboy Action Shooting many years ago.

Wow, I guess my favorite is ... well crud...okay one of two. My 1917 built Colt 1911 that I rebuilt to spec or my Third Model Smith & Wesson .44 Special Hand Ejector, it was one of the first batch made for Wolf & Klar when they brought them out.

I’ve carried afield and shot a 1952 Colt MT Woodsman 4.5 inch a whole lot but I also love my 625 .45 Smith. Shot a lot of matches with it. It would have to be between those two.

I agree up to a point but sometimes the less than favorite guns just need to get out in the sun and get some exercise.

I don't have any originals, so my favorite is a Rossi 1892 with a 20" barrel in .45LC/.454 Casull that I bought in 2007 after returning from 5 years in Germany, working for Uncle Sam.
Scouts Out!
