During the weekend of February 25-26, 2023 the Gen. Barnard E. Bee Camp 1575, Sons of Confederate Veterans, will host the annual Battle of Aiken event. The event location will be at 1210 Powell Pond Road, Aiken, SC 29801. This event is open to the public and consists of both Federal and Confederate reenactors, recreating this historic battle, which was part of General Sherman's march through Georgia and South Carolina. The military objective was a Confederate powder factory in Aiken. However, the Confederates were successful in their defense and General Sherman ended up bypassing Aiken completely, and went to Columbia, instead.
Our NCOWS posse, the South Carolina Old West Shootists, has been invited to set up an Old West display and recruitment booth, and to assist as needed during the event. There are usually several live, Old West style shootouts, , as well as live fire military battles, including period cannon, all using blanks. For safety reasons, in consideration of the numerous live fire exercises, no live ammo will be allowed on the person of any reenactors. There will be a boat-ton of vendors, of various period items, including period military, frontier, clothing, and Old West type things. This is a family oriented event and there is usually a pretty large and orderly turnout.
