2014 Muster: What are you going as?
« on: December 27, 2013, 05:08:16 PM »
I was just shooting my '76 Winchester replica, and I'm thinking I may have to shoot in the Scout Class (as well as the Battle Rifle Class) just so I can shoot that thing.  Half scale Blunt targets are dead meat at one hundred yards from the sitting position!  Neat rifle!

1899 Col. of the Staff. What will I shoot? Well I love shooting the Krag and S&W, plus it goes with the uniform. I spent part of the day yesterday working on a strap for the binoculars case I won as a door prize at this year's Grand.

I'll have to shoot my trapdoor (with BP of course) too just because I haven't beat RSJ head to head yet.  ;)

Probably be Pierre the legionere  again. Hopefully with some planned uniform improvements by then. Shooting two classes would require me to get my Gras functioning, (or getting a better one). Nothing much else goes with the white uniform.....

Something very similar to a Swiss militiaman. Or Jules Sandoz.

You'd have to bring the wife and be mean to her on that one, maybe have a feud with one of Jerry's neighbors. ;)

Did some bullet casting today to make sure I have enough.  This should keep me in .50-70's for a day or two!  (That's about a third to a half of the overall production for today and yesterday.  Got to take advantage of the nice weather!)

Those should last a day or two if you are conservative. Always gives me kind of a warm feeling inside being well stocked with bullets.

Well, you could put a saddle on your horse about now and not take it off until after the muster so that when you do take the saddle off it brings the horse's skin off with it

Always gives me kind of a warm feeling inside being well stocked with bullets.

I've been reloading too. I have all my .45 Colt and .45ACP loaded (Almost 7,000 rounds total) All my 45/70 Gov. smokeless. (I'm out of BP or I'd be done loading it too.  I've loaded 12ga until I ran out of wads. As soon as I get some bullets I'll start loading .40S&W ( I must have about 2,500 round of brass for that too) My plan is to have everything I own reloaded by spring.

Staff Lt. Colonel 1900 China Relief Expedition.  Sailor off the USS Monocacy (Also China) for the EOE.  Something suitably Russian for the Zoot match.

Need to get the lead pot cranked up!

Right now I'm planning on an Australian Light Horse Captain for the Expansion Era.  Just shot my 1913 SMLE with Trail Boss loads today.  Wouldn't you know the .303 uses thirteen grains just as the .30-40 and the .50-70 do!  Worked great on the Blunt targets out to about seventy-five yards, too!

1900's Argentine Mountain Artillery for the EOE. 1880's USMC for the MM. Still gathering a few pieces for each, but should be ready by June. Don't know if I'll have anything for the banquet, may just go civilian then. Al.

I'll be doing my best to get my act together over the next few months, to be able to take the field as a circa-1870 Canadian Militia infantryman (Pattern 1863 tunic) specifically badged to the 43rd (Carleton) Battalion of Infantry, rather like this:

A couple of period photos, Sergeant on left with shako, Privates on right with kilmarnock cap (undress headwear) -

I am working on the shako and already have a kilmarnock cap, hand-made for me in the UK .....

Anyone who remembers me posting about this earlier may also recall why I want to do up this particular impression, specifically badged to the 43rd Battalion -

In my collection is this Canada General Service Medal (1866-70) marked to one of three Privates with the surname Rombough (all direct genealogical forebears of mine) enrolled in the 43rd Battalion (all of whom were awarded this medal .....)

And if I do get this all together, whether I can be really "competitive" or not I suppose I'll just have to shoot the skirmishes with the Dominion of Canada-issue "long-butt" 3-band Snider-Enfield rifle i have acquired specifically marked to that battalion, which I m'moved heaven and earth" to track down and acquire -

Giving it serious consideration.  Might do an Asiatic Fleet sailor for the EoE.
