I'll be doing my best to get my act together over the next few months, to be able to take the field as a circa-1870 Canadian Militia infantryman (Pattern 1863 tunic) specifically badged to the 43rd (Carleton) Battalion of Infantry, rather like this:
A couple of period photos, Sergeant on left with shako, Privates on right with kilmarnock cap (undress headwear) -
I am working on the shako and already have a kilmarnock cap, hand-made for me in the UK .....
Anyone who remembers me posting about this earlier may also recall why I want to do up this particular impression, specifically badged to the 43rd Battalion -
In my collection is this Canada General Service Medal (1866-70) marked to one of three Privates with the surname Rombough (all direct genealogical forebears of mine) enrolled in the 43rd Battalion (all of whom were awarded this medal .....)
And if I do get this all together, whether I can be really "competitive" or not I suppose I'll just
have to shoot the skirmishes with the Dominion of Canada-issue "long-butt" 3-band Snider-Enfield rifle i have acquired specifically marked to that battalion, which I m'moved heaven and earth" to track down and acquire -
