Good morning friends. 52 here right now heading to 70. So sunny out it hurts your eyes! Supposed to have about 2 more days of sun, then rain for the next two weeks! Anyhoo, hope you all have a good day, I gotta go to my bank, my hobby account got hacked and have to transfer some cash over and reset everything. Annoying, but that's why I have a completely separate online account from my main accounts, so it' not  a disaster, just a pain.

Still need rain here, we got not near enough and the storms go north and south of us, so close you can see the clouds.

Well it's stupid us being in a red flag so bad we have a total burning ban and 30 miles away they have a flash flood warning.

We almost lost Rock Creek Station 2 weeks ago, even on mowed grass it takes big cajones to fight a wooded creek bottom and prairie fire head on.  They saved it and these people are volunteers.  My daughter and SIL didn't get called out but several in their area did, they were kept close to home in reserve.  Burnt 2600 acres, a big fire for SE Nebraska, open enough area no buildings were destroyed. And I mean beside the park.

Next project, off to Home Depot,
I need a cordless pole chain saw, I have several -several Ryobi tools and batteries that have served me well.
So, I guess that is the brand I spring for,
I considered the Bauer (Harbour Freight @ about 1/2 the price)
But its tool only, and a battery or two and its proprietary charger for same will up the Ante to within $30.

Now that I'm retired and seemingly without direction (someone else's ummm opinion that is) ::)
I have the honey do's and projects in abundance apparently.

Good morning all, sunny and getting warmer already, supposed to hit 75 today. Roger, I switched to Ryobi tools some years back when I found out they don't change battery sizes, so you can use the same batteries in everything. Been very pleased so far with them. Hope you all have a fine day.

Post by: Major 2 on May 02, 2023, 02:24:59 PM
I actually, switched the production shop over when Ryobi went with the "ONE" battery years ago.
I bought the 4 tool bag sets for each of the Road Job boxes, and several sets for the shop.

I personally have a variety of the tools...from several Drills & Impacts to leaf blower and brad gun.
A 18v compressor in the SUV & Sawall, Jig Saw and a couple of Circular saws.

I pick up the Pole saw this afternoon and will use the batteries I just got last week.

Thanks for the joe, had mine with a toasted ham & cheese.

Running the significant others SUV in for an oil change, 21-point check and tire rotation.
I used to do it myself but find no real satisfaction wrenching on cars like I did in my hot-rodding days.

I held a Sportscar Club of America competition license, and raced an Austin Healey & MGB and later a
Mustang.
These cars today are a computer controlled, way outside my wheelhouse, I just drive don't pretend to know how they work!

Morning all.

60 and overcast, headed to 65 here in the Trinity River Valley.

Plans for today include pulling out the weed whacker and cleaning up the yard a bit.

Del, I just talked to a friend that works for BLM (the one that puts fires out), and apparently he was in your neck of the woods fighting that fire. Was only there for two days before they kicked him off the incident -something about excess resources and not being needed anymore. Gotta love the government.  ::)

Good evening folks. Hit 77 here today and sunny, just a beautiful day. Spent it at work, we're shorthanded so there was no lunch break today, just some beef sticks. Anyway, wondering if the former employee will actually show up tomorrow, he is kinda conceited, so it's always a crap shoot depending on him.

We have militaria vendor, that has some items for sale on display in the gift shop,at the Museum.
From time to time, something will be priced extremely bargain-ish in my humble opinion.
Then with an additional 20% discount its downright grab-it when you see it time.   ;D

Gonna bring it home to use my wet tumbler to get it ready for a shoot next week. We will have a couple of tables there, so even though I won't be shooting, get to hang out and sell stuff from the store. Raining here, but warm, so overall pretty nice. Later Gents.

Basically. Apparently The state had requested a federal air tanker to help them out, and the feds decided to send a bunch of fire trucks with it. Except, the tanker got diverted midway, so only the trucks showed up. By that time they had figured it out and the trucks weren’t needed.

My 1/2 sister sent me some of my fathers awards, medals and insignia, I need to fine a Gunny Sgt chevron and a shadow box that holds a flag so I can make a display for it.Some I've seen online are priced way out of my budget.

Michael’s craft store sells a really nice one for about $100. I have two of their square ones for my service memorabilia, and they’re pretty nice.

Went into town first thing this morning, picked up 50 fence posts. Drove 30 of them before a late breakfast. So many rocks, sometimes don't always get to put the post where it needs to be, just try, then move over 6", try again.... Fixing some 40-50 year old fence, the treated oak posts finally giving up. Next up, going to check out the big car show at Lake Ozark. Usually about a thousand entries. And a side trip up to Mennonite country in search of some garden plants we can't find locally.

Major 2, when you called back yesterday I had got another call.  Seems like when I call someone and miss them someone tries me.  May try you tomorrow late afternoon evening, going to be smoking a turkey I got months ago for free.  If I smoke it and disassemble it and vacuum bag and freeze it then it gets ate over time.  I discovered something called Buffalo Wing Sauce and bought the double jars on sale at Costco.  Yes I had never tried it and I like it, seems it can be used on things other than wings.  Hang me for it but that is one of many stupid Yuppie fads to raise the price of cheap meat.  Danged thing I ever saw, boacon, side meat, chuck roast, sirloin all sky high and beyond their worth because of fads, half have to do with the pellet pushing suzy homemaker grill things.  Yes they produce good food easily but so does a microwave.  They don't make you a pit boss.  Frankly I can do better with my little barrel thing, those don't get the amount of smoke in the meat to make it good, LOL smoker Lite to go with your favorite brand of Lite beer. ;D

So Ok  :)  I saw I had missed your call and was just returning the call.

I was actually gifted one of those Tredegar's pellet smokers, as workplace honorarium.
IT's not the biggest one they make, but I've done Ribs, fish & shrimp, a few London broils and some steaks.
I did manage to do a 16lbs Turkey once, but the lid barely closed.

It's OK for free, and easy enough, It did erupt is fire in the smoke chamber once, so one has to keep a a causes eye out...

I stepped out on the lanai and saw Coral Snake which beat a retreat and I lost sight of him.
Yes, I'm sure it was one, I know the difference between " Yellow & Red kill ya dead " and the black & yellow touching bands = King snake.
Coral snakes are not aggressive, and though the venom is highly poisonous bites to humans are rare.
They are not aggressive, and the fangs and bite are small.

I read they are out in the morning cool (mostly live underground) and in the Spring looking to mate.
Which concerns me, I don't want eggs to hatch into a brood of vipers  :o

however, they are considered some of the most toxic snakes in North America because their venom contains powerful neurotoxins.

Fun with snakes  ;D

Years ago, I was on location Texas (The Alamo Film)....there were these three fellows (friends of mine) from Missouri.
It was out in a wooded area, and they were sitting on rather large diameter fallen tree trunk.
I walked over and we were engaged in conversation, it went on for a few minutes, when I casually asked " is that a SNAKE" pointing beneath them.....

these guys jumped straight up from a seated position simultaneously ... much like a startled cat will leap
several feet in the air like a coil spring  ;D

I was greatly amused, but apparently " you don't ever say SNAKE to a Missourian. "    :o

I've been here on my ranchette 35 years, on rare occasion I've seen common Garter snakes, Black Racers.
I even killed a pygmy rattler once in a hedge.
This is the first Coral snake I've ever seen in person, at least not on display in a Serpentarium.

Morning all.

55 headed for 90 in our corner of the golden state.

Been having fun at the new job. Been doing a lot of training hikes, and training some smaller skills. Yesterday I taught classes on spinal injuries and map/compass navigation. I have also been promoted to be one of the “bearer of radios,” and  one of the “fire line route deciders.” Small things, but in the world of wildfire they’re important.

Supposed to hit 88 today and enjoying "the air you wear" humidity. Anyway supposed to cool off the next coupla days. My back is still sore from loading/unloading out two tables at the Shoot last week, but it got the store a lot of attention and covered our labor cost [me]. Anyway took all the goodies back to the store today and the 18 year old got to unload my truck!  :D The Missus got home from her jaunt to Nevada on Saturday about the same time I got back from the shoot, so the weekend was much improved.

It did cloud up some and a thunderclap was heard off in the distance, but no rain fell.

A Masked Bandit bit the dust today. Wife caught a coon in the henhouse this morning, I guess Mrs Coon figured out to wait until daytime, after we let the chickens out, then go in and help herself to some eggs, and maybe a chicken or two. I was doing some farm equipment repairs, she comes driving up, honking. I grab my Ruger Standard auto, top off the magazine, and off we go. At the first shot, it started "flip flopping" all around the coop. Then it started to flip flop closer to me...in a small coop...I did a "mag dump" on it. Good thing I topped it off. Wife was surprised it didn't just fall over dead, told her this isn't the movies.

Pony, good shooting! Those coons can take a lot of lead sometimes, tough little buggers. The LGS I part time at took in a S&W K22 yesterday, lots of holster wear, but really tight. Gonna see what it will cost me today. 80 here already, only supposed to get to 83 and rain. The Missus is off giving piano lessons and I will be working this afternoon. Think I will take her out to dinner tonight. Y'all have a good day.

I had the Carne Asada, and the in-house Salsa they bring to wet your taste buds was super.
I bought a container to bring home.

I was stirred up early (4:20 am) by the dog alerting something amiss.
Since we are on lightly wooded acreage and in the sticks (well what I used to call sticks) it would usually be a strange noise or a stray 4-legged intrusion.
However, It is best to heed said alert, better to tell Blaze "It's alright", than be surprised.
It was indeed alright, don't know what it was exactly, but after inspection it was not an uninvited two-legged intrusion.  :-X

So, being I was up anyway and morning ablutions handled I decided to watch a U-Tube or two.
I found this, and it was great.
Syfy, alternate History and very well done. I posted it in another Chat Room but it's worth repeating the link here... hope you enjoy it as I did....

I went to an all-boys Technical High School and studied Drafting. Before I went into the Army, I worked as a Draftsman for almost three years. We used pencils and T-squares. Now it's all done on a computer with a mouse instead of a pencil. I believe they call it CAD (Computer Assisted Drafting). it's a good profession. I always enjoyed my job. When I got out of the Army, I went to a Community College in Milwaukee. Got a good education there. As I remember, the tuition was almost free in 1962.

Architecture was my initial choice for a career after High School in Racine, before I fell into the Data Processing world.  Loved my drafting equipment (Triangles, scales, Roman Ogees “that is not a misspelling”).
I went to MATC (Milwaukee Area Technical College) for a semester, after having been in the real DP world for 2-3 years, just to find out I could teach the classes I was taking. (IBM crams a semester of college into 1-2 weeks).  Kept that up until I retired.  Now a wish I had a grand-kid to bounce Ideas off-of to keep me up to date on all the new stuff.

The community college I went to was called M.I.T. (Milwaukee Institute of Technology). I could have taught the Drafting class. The name was eventually changed to MATC (Milwaukee Area Technical College).
M.I.T. was a two-year junior college and what I learned there helped me in my work. We received no counselling about college in high school and I was scared about going to a four-year college. At that time, I thought college was for brainy and rich people.

Well at that time he was the winningest Class A in the state and he plain treating me cold the rest of the semester and I wasn't going to put up with that shit 3 more semesters, 2 of which were double back to back classes.  1972 and the old SOB required a crew cut when practice started.

55 and sunny here, headed for 81 and afternoon T-storms.

Mrs. TK took her truck in for the dreaded Smog appointment, followed by a DMV visit for registration yesterday. All went well, though I did have to have a phone call with the DMV lady to authorize her to forge my signature on the registration paperwork. They were hesitant, but allowed it when I gave them both my current and former DL numbers. The joys of a small town dmv.

Work is going well. I’ve been promoted from “new guy that needs training,” up to “second seat in the engine.” Which doesn’t really mean much other than I have responsibilities beyond sweeping the cab and washing the windows. But it sounds cooler  ::)

Well, here we go again.  :-X

An area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms is associated with
a surface trough of low pressure interacting with an upper-level
trough over the eastern Gulf of Mexico.
The system is forecast to move across the Florida
Peninsula this weekend and emerge into the southwestern Atlantic
Ocean by early next week.
The system should produce heavy rainfall and gusty winds over portions of the
Florida Peninsula later this week.
