Title: Cure for taking the "OUCH" out of a crescent buttplate
Post by: Triggersmith on May 07, 2007, 06:32:04 PM
Someone on this forum suggested using a wedge inside the buttpad to fill up that crescent.  I did and it works just great.  It took the "OUCH" out of the crescent buttplate on my 45-70 trapdoor Hawken.
Much obliged for the suggestion.

That's a good idea. It looks good, too. I made one once by layering leather and then shaping it to fit the crescent. Then I made a cover to go over all of it. More work than necessary, but it certainly did work.

   Greetings!

Excellent Idea!! You have saved both my shoulder, and the beautiful buttstock I can't live without!

   Be Well!

Triggersmith;  That looks like a real professional job.

Thanks Gents, but it wasn't my idea to fill in the crescent part.  I can't remember (being quite old) who suggested it, but it was a dandy of an idea.  My crescent buttplate doesn't bite me now.  If I want to look authentic I just take it off until I shoot.
Try it, you'll like it and again I am indebted to the person that suggested it.
