I am working on an exhibit/display of Smith & Wesson revolvers in the 'Old West.'  It anyone has pre-1900 photos of characters with clearly identifiable Smith & Wesson's, please post them here.  Here is an example.

GREAT PROJECT!  Please post more.  People do not realize there were so many S&Ws and Remingtons around then.  I would think that probably out of 10 cowboys in 1885, half would be S&W, Remington, or percussion cartridge conversions, and only half would be 1873 SAAs.

I can't believe almost 100 people have looked at this thread and not one picture posted. :(

Here's another one:

The middle gentleman appears to be holding a Smith & Wesson 2nd model single-action .38.

 :) Well Heck ;)

I well realize this has nothing to do with the OP or subsequent.  Butt.  And However.  That particular Tin Type appears to be an infamous "Studio Posed" job with Studio Provided accouterments.  I would even venture it's probably a studio provided "Rent-a-Dog."  None of the hats appear to fit either.  Still, "Velly Interestink" I think.

Oops:  No, I actually don't have any historical tin types to contribute.

I concur; it is a studio photo with supplied props.  But that is a 2nd Model Single-action .38 Smith & Wesson.

I wonder how many studio photos have those same guns in them?  :)

 :) Hey Abilene  ;)

Yep.  That there 1866 certainly is cocked.  Wanna bet there actually isn't a Main Spring innit??  I think it also hard to look "well hard" when yer cartridge belt is actually sans any cartridges!!  And just to be further cruel, what kind gun toteun baddie would tote hims pistol like that inna loose cartridge belt??  Betcha those same guns have appeared in absolutely dozens of Tin Types, and I bet those same guns have been dropped on the floor by wanna be tyros as many times as they have appeared in Tin Types.

And what's up with the brim of that hat?  Some fancy leather stitching for the camera, or what?

Well, iffin yer a "dandy" looking for a swell Tin Type to send to the relations back home, one should of course, use a flashy hat to compliment the fringy leather shirt, No??
