Brass vs. Steel back strap, on a 45LC cattleman
 I’ve been told not to bother with the Brass as they do not hold up but I kind of like the looks of the brass over the steel, so my question is will the Brass hold up just as well as the steel?

Hold up to what ? as a hammer ? 

I doubt you will wear a Brass Grip farme out in your lifetime or will the heir you may leave it to....
use SAAMI proven loads for your particular model and you'll be fine.

There is certainly no loss of function with a brass backstrap.  It’s just aesthetics and authenticity to the Peacemaker as Colt invented it that we are talking about.

I use to be something of an authenticity snob and did not care for the brass backstraps on Ubertis or Jagers.  I ended up changing my mind.  Probably just because the Italians were putting out good affordable guns.  But those brass backstraps actually look quite sharp.

I had a brass tg/bs on my Jager Dakota for better than 25 years, I hated it. It didn't do nuttin bad, it fit well, I even put one piece Boone Trader poly ivory grips on it...(I dropped the gun and chipped the grips...) but that damn tg/bs held up fine. I finally got a set of brass that was black nickel plated and sold them brass ones in less than a day on the SASS wire....

NOw folks are putting on 1860 tg/bs which are at least half brass. so go figure.

but the work just fine, unless you plan on hammerin up wanted posters with em.

Personally I like the blued steel grip frame and trigger guard because of the looks and authenticity, but if I shot a lot of blackpowder loads in competition, I might want a brass grip frame and trigger guard to be fitted.  It might make cleaning and worry over rust and corrosion a bit less.
