Title: GAF Priority Prayer Alert
Post by: Gripmaker on September 23, 2012, 10:18:03 PM
Ladies and Gentlemen of the GAF.  This is a high priority alert concerning one of our own. Grant Rombaugh aka Rattlesnake Jack has informed us that his two year old Grandson has been diagnosed with Leukemia and will begin chemotherapy very soon. I am calling all members to prayer for this little guy and his family, not only that God heal him but also to bring calm and a sense of knowing to the family that He still has everything under control.  We must remember that when we do not seem to see His hand at work, His love is still moving on our behalf and His Word is still true. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in these prayers and don't let up until He directs you to.

Yours in His Service,
LTC Mongomery Little, Senior Chaplain, GAF
AKA Rev. Larry Little

My heartfelt thanks to each of you!

Diagnosis was just a week ago Friday, but it seems like an eternity already!  Although too early to tell much, Ebin seems to be doing well, and may even be discharged from Alberta Children's Hospital today (albeit only to their quarters in the adjacent Ronald Mcdonald House). Treatment will be ongoing for at least 5 months. of course.

God bless the Ronald McDonald House foundation!

Oft times little ones who go through extended medical events seem to develop the most stoic outlook, so that the families soon find strength in their child's adapting to these treatment routines.

My prayers for continued positive news.

Not having heard from Grant for a spell, I dropped him an inquiry and he gave me the sad news about Ebin. I was shocked by his response concerning the gathering of the clan to deal with this matter.

As a card carrying cancer survivor of two years in remission, my heart goes out to them.  I had folks praying for me from Tuktoyaktuk to Texas and it gave me the confidence and reassurance I so desperatley needed. I faced treatment with full confidence to the point where my fellow patients were reluctant to accept me as one of them.

The only prayer I could make on my own behalf was - "Lord, kill me or cure me. I've had a good life and it's OK either way." That inner peace only comes from one source - "the peace that passeth understanding".

Initially, I felt sorry for myself and angry - the classic "why me?" syndrome, until I walked out of the elevator from a consultation and came face to face with a young boy of 9-10, wide smile and a bald head. He was there with his Mom for treatment.
I slunk away with tears in my eyes, feeling very much humbled. God be with ALL who deal with this scourge, especially the children.

Looks like we need to add a prayer for another of our members... a prayer of thanksgiving that it wasn't worse and a prayer for quick healing. I received the following from Books O'Toole
I was in an auto accident on the way home.  My normal hour and a half drive was interupted by a 21 hour visit to the hospital.  After they checked everything twice (or more), the worst of the damage is a broken nose. Caused by the air-bag that saved my life.

Thank God for that!   Hope you mend quickly, Books!

We need to send up some prayers for Division of Nebraska Commander Lt. Col. Mustang Gregg. I received the following from him:

Friends:

Just to let you know thay I got my RH thumb torn up very seriously last Sunday pm when out checking pastures.
I was carrying the Mauser rifle and when I opened the bolt to empty it; It went off and drove the bolt back into my thumb.
I'm praying I will have use of it in the future.  Active duty folks are not happy about this accident.

Gregg

I am so sorry to hear that. My prayers are with Gregg. I would love to know more about how the misfire happened since I own and shoot several Mausers.

"Lord, comfort all those that grieve and mourn this day, and those in pain of any kind. Amen"

Pray tell how this incident came to happen so we can learn how not to repeat it.

"This was a '91 Mauser in .308. We never found the bolt. But it had an aftermarket safety made to clear the scope." - partial quote from MG on the SASSWire."

Obviously some sort of mechanical malfunction. He does mention that he had a problem with a Remington 700 some years ago, but sent it back to the factory for repair. I also remember a hunter in a party I was with who had his rifle discharge when he closed the bolt, rather than opening the bolt. This was about 40+ years ago, and I don't recal the make and model of the rifle. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but it scared the only bull elk and harem seen on that hunting trip.

The only thing I can suggest is if you have a rifle that is not a fairly modern design, and/or has been modified in the bolt/safety/trigger area, that it might be a good idea to cycle the action rapidly, with the chamber and magazine empty
to see if you can induce such a problem!

Again, we pray for a speedy recovery for Greg.

Mustang Gregg, praying for speedy and complete recovery!

As for the malfunction, I don't know what could have happened., unless it had something to do with the aftermarket safety, or perhaps some "trigger work" had been done, since it is a sporter. I just puller my '91 out of the safe to re-familiarize myself with it. The '91 is a cock on closing action, and when I open the bolt, the spring pressure on the striker simply pushes the bolt backwards as soon as the locking lugs clear. So once the bolt is unlocked, the pressure immediatly is off of the striker spring. Perhaps part of the sporterization was a cock on opening mod? I know they have done this on other actions, don't know about '91s, though.
