Title: knife sheath

I see quite a few old knife sheaths with just a big button and no belt loop. How did they rig these to carry on the belt ?   Jw

Either with a "button hole" on the belt or a "frog" (sort of a bobbed-off sheath) with a similar hole on the outside of the sheath..  I've also seen a bobbed-off sheath with a v-shaped notch on the top of the throat. 

Not very good descriptions, but I'll bet someone checks in with pictures.
