Do SAA hammers need fitted?
« on: February 10, 2012, 09:23:13 PM »
Hello,

I would like a CCH hammer on my 3rd Gen. Colt SAA, and found a real 3rd Gen. hammer from a 2008 SAA that is already CCH by Turnbull.  Would this hammer drop right into my 1997 SAA?

Usually.  But, guns are machines and machines have tolerances.

So the hammer should fit, or no?

I guess I could have my original hammer CCH, but thought it would be easier to use one already done, as well as leaving my hammer original should I want to put it back.

Like I said "usually" it "should" drop in.  Whether it will you won't know for sure until you install it.

It'd be far easier to get your own hammer color-casehardened.

'Running Iron' can do this - as can a goodly number of others.
