I'm plannin on copyin it to CD's and transferin it that way. Seemed like a good idea at first......any other better/easier ways  ???

Foothills:  Good luck on your "computer do".  I, personally, wouldn't attempt something like that.  I'd take it to a shop and have them do it.  I know it would cost a bundle, but at least, in my case, it would be done correctly.  As you are working on this project....always remember:  "Computers are here to save us time, money and frustration!"  Uh huh!  Sure they are!

If you got Ethernet card (NIC card) in each computer you can buy a "crossover cable"  The guy at local computer store will help you out.  Network them together then you can drag and drop files from one to the other.

A crossover cable is like a regular Ethernet cable cept one end is wired opposite.

Hope this helps.   :)

Well it looks like that cable drifter, but while one end is wired normal, the other end is wired back wards.  Go to your local computer shop and ask for a crossover cable.  $10 or so.

Now if you want to run both computers with Internet access, like one in the office and one in the shop, you can get a router $89 or so, (your mileage may very  ;D) and then yes, the same type of cable that you run to your modem will work. :)

Drifter-

Most programs have to "install" themselves into your computer and life in general.  If the *.exe or setup program isnt there --- Good Luck.  Ask your computer guy...

Hemlock is right.

Copying the directory with the "Program Files" does not work for many programs.  You will have the programs, but not the ablility to run them

There is a "master fIle" known as the Registry"  information is stored there during the normal installation process, and will not be there if you just copy the programs.

I'd recommend going through the Install process (Setup) for your software, and using the copy option for your personnal data files.

When you install a program on your computer it puts little bits and pieces all over the place.  in the DLL file, system file and the list goes on and on.  The whole install isn't under the file it's named for, it's spread out all over.

You can go and get your e-mail address book, favorites list, documents, pictures, music and what ever other files you have and put them on your computer.
