It's also my opinion that Big Ed took on too many orders that he didn't have the resources to fill in a timely manner, his health went deep south on him, and he's in the toliet financially because of those health issues, and he's to darn embarassed to ask for help.

Wymore, that's fine and dandy but when you can't fill orders that are years old then why keep taking orders?  Better yet why keep coming online and telling people that they are bothering him with questioning him about their orders and if he didn't have so many people bothering him about past orders then he could get more work out?  It's just not right to keep taking people's money like he is.  It's not right.

And on top of that I KNOW that when he was so far behind, years behind, that he hand tooled a rig for someone for free.  Very, very nice elaborate rig.

Exactly the point I have tried to make Camille  Thanks for adding to the sanity here.   Again, I hope those that placed orders in good faith and had their charge cards billed end up getting their goods eventually.   For those of you who are reading these postings and might be new to CAS,  please be aware that MOST leather craftspeople out there turn out high quality goods, in a reasonable amount of time and actually care about customer service.   Regards.  Deadeye.

Cammie, I'm in total agreement that Big Ed's business practices are "less than desirable", in my dealing with Ed, I've found that I've had to insist that he write down my order, because he tries to do everything off of memory, and that's not what it use to be.  I also always asked to talk with his wife, because Big Ed would promise you the world, believing he could fill the order, his wife would give you the real delivery estimate, often weeks different.  It's also just my opinion that he continued to take orders to have money to live on, thinking that he could catch up, things snowballed on him and that didn't happened because of his health.  It's also my opinion that we need to come up with away to help this cowboy get on his feet again, and he will make good on the rest...

Wymore why don't you organize a charity shoot?  Or contact some of the people that he helped while they were down and out and tell them that Big Ed could sure use their help now that they are back on their feet?  Or find a way to get money back to all the people that have paid Big Ed in full for rigs that were never delivered then he can try to start rebuilding without the back log?

Cammie, those are all good ideas, and I need to make a few phone calls, but all of these double shifts right now are kinda of getting in the way of that...  I'll do all I can..  But I wonder if all the satisified customers over the years sent them a five or ten dollars donation, i.e. deposit on future work we can call it, if that would help.

How about just a donation with no strings attached? I suspect a deposit on future work wouldn't be anything other than a donation anyway. Better still, how about a donation to a fund to pay back all his bad debts for him? One that someone else controls and he can't dip into. From what people in this thread are saying, he seems to have proved unable to handle the ethics of business by himself. At least that would get the really unhappy people out of the picture. Maybe some of the people who really like the guy can organize it.

The debt repayment fund sounds like a good place ta start.  That way folks would know they was chippin in ta help several pards an not jus the one.  Like Del, I don't really have a dog in this fight but it sounds like a good way ta restore the faith fer many.

I am amazed that this company is still operating.  This has been going on for quite some time.  I don't think I could have the patience to wait for three years waiting for an order.

As far as all the ailments or problems this man has had over the last three years, enough is enough already with that!!!  He is supposed to be running a business.  Stop taking orders, fill all outstanding ones and then go on from there.  How hard is that?      ::)

When does it go from hard times to being fraud?      :-\

Its been down for a long time boys.  Since before this thread started.  I looked.

I hope you all haven't made a bad situation worse for a good old man and a damn fine asset to Cowboy Action Shooting.

OIJ, people have a right to complain about bad service and to warn others that there is someone taking money and not producing the promised product.

I appreciate honest reviews on vendors.

OIJ,

I wasn't gonna get into to this because, I thought a lot of Big Ed also, but...

...I find it interesting that Kempf gunshop still offers Tombstone Territorial Leather which was Big Ed's entry level leather.  It would seem that he has been producing leather goods for vendors. At least for Kempf. While the custom order customers have been waiting.

If I am proved wrong, I will be the first to offer my apologies.

UPDATE:

I found that I was mistaken about Wild West Merchantile's Leather, it made by a totally different maker. I stopped at the store the other day and talked to the cute lil' gal that works in the office. She informed me that it comes out of Colorado.

Its been down for a long time boys.  Since before this thread started.  I looked.

I'd been bookmarking CAS sites for years before I was able to finally make my first purchase.  San Pedro was one of those places I visited frequently, just to drool.  But he didn't offer a buscadero like Dillon's and that's what the grail was for me.  But then I decided to let NCOWS be my guide (will join someday) and wanted to look at his site because I could now appreciate his offerings from a historical, not fantasy, perspective.  It said no more retail orders and he was then off my list.  I gather that things have progressed since then.  Unfortunately, not for some out-of-pocket folks here.

I hope you all haven't made a bad situation worse for a good old man and a damn fine asset to Cowboy Action Shooting.

I don't think that's the way it works, but that's just my POV.  I do not sense that anybody that has expressed their frustrations here would actually wish ill on another human being for a lousy $500.

And I am sure alot of us here appreciate the fact that CAS City allows such reviews to occur, especially when there appears to have been so many people who were taken advantage of.   So thanks to the moderators of this board.  Regards.  Deadeye.

I hope Big Ed is fat dumb and happy about screwing all these poor old people.

That's disappointing.

With all the friends that Big Ed made over the years, it's a shame nobody stepped up to help him out to answer emails, return phone calls, help him maintain his reputation, meet his obligations, etc.

Instead, his friends ignored the signs, censored the negative publicity on the SASS wires, and didn't come in to prevent the situation from getting worse.

What a shame.
