Anybody got a spare Krag or Trapdoor?
« on: April 28, 2020, 12:25:11 PM »
Beerflu boredom has kicked in big time!  I got my major projects done, my honeydoos, organized my gun stuff so now I need to buy some stuff.  I'm looking for a couple of different things.

Trapdoor. I'm looking for a decent Springfield trapdoor rifle.  Shootable is #1 but I would like it in decent shape w/readable cartouche.

2.  A Krag.  An antique would be best with all the issues of closed gun shops etc.  Something restored is good, copy of a Philippine Constabulary carbine, restored/repro carbine etc  A decent rifle would be nice also.  Military configuration or at least easily put back to that.

Price is an issue.  I'm looking for decent shooter grade stuff.  Not minty collector grade.

If you can help me out, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

I know you are looking for an original rifle, bit IF, a reproduction carbine would work for you, I have a very nice Pedersoli that I have installed an original carbine sight on that I am going to sell. I came upon a cutdown rifle that someone did a very nice job on to take it's place.

Thanks for the offer but it is probably a bit pricey for me.  The are great guns though.  I already have a nice H&R Trapdoor now but would like to find an original infantry rifle or a cut down that I can do a nice carbine repro with.

Guessing this would be one of the high line models, sn places it 1886, metal finish great, wood was repaired & refinished. The story behind the repair to buttstock, rifle was found in the wall of a house being torn down in Kansas.

That question is almost like asking if one has a child or two to sell to the gypies, I don't buy guns as much as adopt them.
Having said that wish you luck on the quest.
