Many of you may be aware of a very talented leather maker in our ranks - Trailrider of the Department of the Platte. Lately I had him build a new rig for me. I am a SASS shoother, so need to pack two revolvers and I wanted a rig to reflect frontier military origins but still be match friendly. The holster are based on the 1881 cavalry style but without flaps. The first picture shows the new rig and the second shows the new rig next to a full-on cavalry rig also built by Trailrider. The quality of the details doesn't show in the pix, but the work is excellent: the holsters are tight on the belt; the stitching is perfect; the holsters fit the revolvers (Trailrider likes to fit them tight so I had him mold the for original Ruger Vaqueros instead of my Colts - even so, I had to wet fit and stretch them just a tad for smooth draw and re-holster). I think you'll agree that this rig has right "look".

I had Trailrider make me a belt several years ago. It is quality leather gear. I like those flap less holsters. I need to get two made when I get my second 1860 Army.

Looks great, I'll look forward to checking it out at Winter Range!

Unfortunately, I haven't had the
money pleasure of getting any of Trailrider's fine leather goods ... yet ... but I have talked at length with him on the phone. He has a wealth knowledge! It was a great pleasure talking to him - and learning.

Gentlemen,
Thank you all for the kind remarks. I try my best...
We'll be busy with family for the next few days, so if you try to and don't get me directly on the "voice telegraph", or get a reply to any "visual telegraph" messages (like this one), just leave word with the robot machine.
Best wishes to all for a Happy Channukah or Merry Christmas, and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!
Your humble servant,
-
Same to you, Sir!
-
Pigpen, we'll look for you come February... take care in the meantime

That is an extremely nice looking rig. Great job Trailrider!

Very nice outfit.
Bvt Major Trailrider does excellent leatherwork. I have several of his holsters and belts and like them a lot. I can highly recommend him to GAF members looking for military gun leather.
I've been considering something very similar - essentially the military holster with the flap cut off. I saw an example in one of my reference books and thought it'd be a good "SASS" friendly rig. You beat me to it!

I can tell it's going to be the "cat's pajamas". Looking forward to Winter Range which will be the first match for it.
