There were several bazillion 22s manufactured with the "H" head stamp.  They should still be worth at least the price marked on the box
when they were originally sold.

PS:  You may also find some silly "collector" who will pay "stupid" money just to have them in their "collection."

Johns 44,
Well it depends.....If the ammo is in a vintage box than it could be worth something. If its pre 1930, the box of ctgs could be worth anywhere from $50 - $5,000 at auction depending on what it is.  The highest $ box of .22 Short ammo I saw on action had Winchester Junior Rifle Corps  on the label. It sold for $5,600!

Waitda minute here!!  Is somebody kidding??  A box of 22s going for 5+ Grand??  I admit I don't follow the "collectors" stuff much,
but ....... Holy Cow Poop Catman.  That is a serious chunk of change for ....... 22s??  I'm inna wrong business.  My previous answer
was a little flip..... out of ignorance.  I would have never imagined ....... I gotta get out more ......... :o

Yes.
What w44wcf has explained here is quite true.
There are however a number of variables involved with ammo collecting that I don't wish to get involved with here.
W44wcf is better armed for such discussions than I am.
I have to say that, Yes, you are being a "little flip" with your previous answer.

w44wcf, good  reply!

Coffinmaker,
I thought that I at least saved a pic of the .22 Short box that sold for $5600. I found it...

The Winchester Junior Rifle Corps was organized in 1917 and was taken over by the NRA about 10 years later.
T box sold sold several years ago on www.wardscollectibles.com

If you were to go there and look at the .22 boxes that sold at the recent auction you will see that at least two of them brought over $2,000.  Typically the most expensive vintage boxes are .22 Shorts.

Blair,
Thank you for the kind words.  I had a bit of knowledge on the subject from looking at wards and soldusa for the past few years.
It is amazing what some vintage .22 boxes sell for.

No, the really amazing part is that some folks were still shooting old boxes of Spencer and Henry ammo even as late as the 1960s. God I wish I knew which of my uncles friends had those rifles now. ;D
