Question About Grip Change Compatibility
« on: June 14, 2023, 04:31:11 PM »
So, I am thinking on a project and was wondering if the Uberti 1873 Thunderer Grip frame in this link would work on a 1851 Navy Conversion?

https://www.vtigunparts.com/store/shopdisplayproducts.asp?Search=Yes&sppp=10&page=1&Keyword=thunderer&category=all&highprice=0&lowprice=0&allwords=thunderer&exact=&atleast=&without=&cprice=&searchfields=cname,%20cdescription,%20ccode

Are the 1873 Uberti revolvers the same as the 1851 Conversions as far as size and screw locations?

It sure does. Beautiful revolvers.

Are the screws all the way in the trigger guards?

Yes, it's a perfect fit with the same screws as the Navy frame.  Front triggerguard screw has smaller head on both. Called them my Thunderer-Mason Conversions  :) . I've shot the guns with those grips many times, but have them back to the Navy grip again.

Interestingly, when I tried to put the Navy grip frame on the Thunderer that had loaned it's grips to the R-M, it all bolted up okay except the slot for the trigger wasn't long enough in the back so the trigger wouldn't fit.  It could have been filed further back but I was just checking the fit so I left it alone.

Looks like Abilene's Navy's was dropped and drug behind his Conestoga some.  :o  I bet with a little time, and the right amount of Spend Deluxe I could get 'em back smooth and re-blued.  8)  I betcha  ;D
