Hi Kevin,
Need a picture of the side to help with the ID. There were a number of manufacturers that didn’t use head stamps. It could be Winchester, American metallic, CDL, Spencer, C&T, or others.

Hi Kevin,
Here’s what I have so far. Could be a Crittenden & Tibbals, CD Leet or Sage with no head stamp. I’m leaning towards the C&T.
If you could send the OAL I should be able to narrow it down.

Thanks, Mike "MGMRADIO":

The ctg OAL is 1.609" and weighs 472gr.
I cannot find any center mark like this in Marcot.
It is more of a muted diamond that is pressed outward from the inside.
Maybe that is not a "headstamp".  Thanks.

Hello,

Kevin, not trying to highjack this thread.  A gentleman sent me this photo of what he thought was a Spencer Repair Tool Kit, but it appears to be a Remington Brand Repair Case, if you look carefully at one of the cases.  Just thought I'd share it.

I see a Burnside Cartridge, 2 Maynards,and a pinfire.  Tools include a Musket tool ca. 1855 , M1903 Springfield tool, M1873 Tool, looks like a ,58 Musket Worm and a .69 Musket Worm and a .45 ACP "L" tool from a WW I cased set.

Kevin,
Honestly I’m not seeing a head stamp. To me, the base looks similar to the base on the Frankfurt Arsenal blanks. That said, there is an almost exact match in Roundball to Rimfire-, the Crittenden & Tibbles with no head stamp. Weight 471, OAL 1.61, diameter .498.
The only other that is close is a head stamped SAW  weight 472, OAL 1.61 and diameter .500. There is a SAW without head stamp listed with slightly different measurements but within expected tolerances.
Unfortunately I don’t have all the different Spencer types in my collection, so I can’t match the base exactly and the books don’t picture the bases of the non marked cartridges.

Many thanks, Mike "mgmradio":

Yes, again, it may not be a headstamp because it is pressed outward from the inside.  Am curious why a maker would use a diamond shaped strike on the inside,  Makers rarely add unnecessary costs.  Perhaps it and the larger annular ring are there for rigidity. So nice to have your data that points to C&T based on dimensions/weight.  Hugs.

Hi guys! Was chatting with kevin, and thought maybe that ctg might be a dual use ctg. Just a wild guess, but old times often thought up simple solutions  for problems

Hello:

Mystery seems to be resolved.

Joel Foss, "6thmissp" here, pointed me to searching further yesterday.
I searched under 56-50 internally primed center-fire and eventually got to The Cartridge Collectors Exchange, Virtual Cartridge Trading Table, Jan 2004.  There is the photo I sent to Two Flints.  It is of a C. D. Leet & Co 56-46 round with the same muted internally impressed diamond.

Kevin has graciously offered one of his Romano Spencers to me as compensation for my excellent photo work.  Kevin is one terrific guy, and a long time Spencer member.  Two Flints

Thanks, everyone, for the collaboration.
All the best.

Big smiles:

I told Two Flints it crossed my mind.

At 80, what am I going to do with all this stuff.  Romano's keep me young.
I just told my wife to stop trading my stuff to the beefcake lawn guy, a joke, and to tag one (Romano) for Fred. Haha.

It's ALL about people.  The only ones that matter are the ones that will cry at your funeral. Pay attention to them.  Hugs.

A really good friend that was in the Rangers in Iraq in the first war told me 2 things. 1-if you dont mind it dont matter- 2. The ones with you in hard times are the ones that are there for good. People always matter, karma always comes back
