Greetings all,
I am just beginning to load for my 2001 Marlin 38-55. I have used Unique and Trail Boss so far with OK results. Winchester brass and Meister 245ish grain lead at .379. The Unique load is quite good at 200 yards.
I have some recipes for 3031 I'd like to work up for longer ranges, perhaps 300-400 yards with the same brass and Meister 245 bullet. Lyman's 48th indicates 31 grains to 35 grains of powder. My Lee dipper chart shows a 2.5 cc dipper is 32.8 grains of 3031 BUT that amount fills the case so much that there has to be a slight bit of powder compression with the bullet seated to proper depth. Is this OK with 3031? I cannot imagine trying to get a full "Lyman 48th" charge of 35 grains of powder in the case and compressing that. The Lyman book bullet in this recipe is a 249 grainer.
Any helpful comments and suggestion very much appreciated.
