I got to thinking bucket lists.... did a search to see if "someone" else had started a thread on the subject....
well there were some entries, but not in the area I was pondering .
Your top 5 Bucket list firearms, you'd like to own ?
I'll list mine in hopes a it becomes an interesting thread and/or maybe additional advertizment might bear fruit in my quest .
in no real order then...
1. A C96 broomhandle Mauser ( quirky and cool I've always like them )
2. A Colt SAA in 32/20 ( has to be a COLT , even a 3rd. gen. )
3. Luger ( 9mm P-08)
4. A 95 Winchester Carbine in 30/40 Krag ( A Miroku Browning might work )
5. Thompson M1921 or M1927 - M1928A1
I could go on I suppose ...but I said 5 so there's mine....

I'll play, but if I can I'll add a couple of 'to do's' along with the to owns.
1. A Webley Fosbery .45 ( I got to shoot one at a WASA match, such a cool revolver)
2. A Triple Lock Smith .45 or one of those new .45 Lugers
3. A 1917 WC Browning semi auto ( there was an outfit building them years ago)
4. A trip to New Orleans to see the WW2 military museum
5. A trip to Normandy

This sounds like it should be a fun subject.
I can't honestly say that I have a "bucket list" of arms that I would like to have filled.
19th Cen. Smith & Wesson (brake top revolvers), Colt & Remington (cartridge) Conversions, Merwin Hulbert and English/Euro. made revolvers have always been a soft spot for me. At the time I started collecting them, they were rather affordable. But, that always seemed to change shortly afterwards.
Civil War period long arms were another sweet spot. Spencer Repeating Arms in particularly. Other long arms like Rifle-Muskets I built for competition shooters within the North/South Skirmish Asst. and a few of the living historians that wanted something more authentic than what was coming out of Italy at the time. At around $900.00 my cost for just the parts, even those custom built guns parts have gotten too expensive for most folks.
I hope more folks add to this subject.

Addition to my earlier posting:
I would like to get an English made side hammer, double action "Kerr" revolver from the mid 1850's. I found one that was a cartridge conversion once. By the time I had made up my mind, and went back to buy it... it was sold. (you snooze, you loose!)
A Shilho Arms made CS Richmond/Robinson Sharps carbine.
I know this isn't 5 items, but this is about the closest I have to a "Bucket list" these days.

Well, I'm with you, Major, on the Winchester '95 carbine. I recently picked up a '95 rifle (made 1899) in 30-40, but the rifle needs a carbine so as to not feel too lonely.
I also longed for a C96 Mauser for a long time. My wife finally got tired of me hopping up and down, pointing at every one we saw in every museum we went to (every museum has at least one). She finally told me to stop doing that and just save my money. I ended up with a nice 1917 broomhandle and it is very cool.
My list seems to shift all the time, though. The only other gun that has been on there forever is a good older Hi-Power. The first semi-auto that I shot was my friend's dad's GI bringback made early in the war with German markings and I was in love. Someday...
I would also like a nice Colt Frontier Six-Shooter, but once my gun budget reaches about $1500, I seem to find something more urgent...

I’ll throw mine in:
1. Kerr cap and ball revolver as used in Civil War
2. 1866 Winchester in 44-40
3. Spencer carbine in 44-40
4. Colt SAA in 32-20
5. Marlin CL in 25-20
The Kerr is the only one that is really tough— no reproductions and originals are very expensive but one can allways dream.
The cost of the Italian guns are getting really expensive and less affordable all the time. To tell the truth I am blessed to have a nice variety
Of Old West and Civil War era firearms so if I do not fill that bucket list I still have enjoyed what I have. I can ride into the sunset with no regrets.

I share that same philosophy , as you say though "one can always dream"
and there in lies the quest ;D
I note, I've had or have a handful of the guns others here have mentioned here .... and concur they are desirable.

I actually had a hard time coming up with very many because I have most of the guns that I've longed for over the years, especially "old west" type guns. I've been blessed in that regard. The vast majority are reproductions because I'm much more of a shooter than a collector. One of my recently completed goals was to have at least one each of the Winchester lever action series from the Henry through the 1895. That was a cool and satisfying project, nearly taking care of my bucket list. So for now, I'm just enjoying what I have, although a similar series of Colt revolvers would be fun...

My wife is a WWII buff (both her parents served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater) and many years ago had a collection of WWII US arms, all coincidentally made in 1943. Vicariously I got to enjoy her M1 Grand, M1 Carbine, 1903A3 Springfield, Remington M-11 12g, and my favorite her 1911A1. I loaded ammo for all of them so she could shoot them, and she always let me fire off a magazine from each one.
That was for those of you wishing for those WWII guns. They were a joy to behold and to fire.
As for me:
First would be a 4-3/4" all US made Pre-War, black powder frame USFA.
A 2000 vintage S&W Schofield. The 7-1/2" would do but I've seen a few 5" blued versions and that would be my preference.
A Winchester (Miroku) '73 Short Rifle with the totally un-necessary tang safety removed.
A Remington Rolling Block sporting rifle in 50-70.
A nice side hammer double 12 Gage. I haven't see all the current offerings so I won't specify any further.

PS: I'm not physically up to shooting all of these firearms, but bucket lists are about wishful thinking so the above is my wish. (smile)

Over the many years I have been interested in firearms collecting and shooting, what was in my "bucket list" varied greatly.
More often than not, if I kept an open mind with what I was able to find (and within my price range), that "list" changed.
I eventually went from wanting everything to being quite particular.
A friend of mine asked me how I could do that?
All I could tell him was that my "bucket list" always cost more than I could afford.
So I found other ways of getting that "fix".
I either built my own or modified something that was available into something that I wanted.
Both of these aspects require a great deal of knowledge and research into the subject if you want to produce something that is historically authentic.
Just another aspect to this thing called the "bucket list"!

I've always wanted a Gatling Gun. Big hefty thing on a wheeled limber with a Cason.
Some lustrum ago, I attended (with well coin'd friend), the disposal of a warehouse full of military surplus from the closing of a small, out of the way Army Post. You had to bid on "lots." A lot was a square taped on the floor. You were bidding on everything in the square. I went to the auction because they were selling off about 200 solid oak roll top desks from WWII. Unfortunately, ALL the desks were stacked in "lots." You had to buy a whole lot with about 20 desks stacked. Some well healed furniture dealer bought them all. Wouldn't sell me just one. Prat. Anyway, my companion bought his lot of stuff which included three nailed up crates. When we got all the "stuff" back to his place (he wanted automotive tools) and opened the crates, he had a complete Gatling gun, Wheeled Limber and a Cason. He paid a grand total of $240 for his "lot." A complete Gatling Gun, for $240. Go figure.

coffin maker...liked your rumination and the lucky find of a gatling. had to read it 3 times before it occurred to me that your "cason" i think is a caisson? heck i would like to have one of the 1/4 scale .22 cal 's they made a few years back

Never made claim to being able to spel gud. Never could. While I hate "auto correct" on this infernal confuser, I do like it's look-up feature and the way it identifies miss-spelled words.
However, yes, I did mean "Caisson." At the time, I couldn't believe what was in to crates. He (my attending friend) did score a big pile of mechanics tools. According to the size(s) though, mostly intended for work on Armor and Tanks. Some really BIG wrenches. How that Gatling wound up in the sale is still a mystery. I did offer twice what he paid for the "lot" to get the Gatling. He just laughed.

My spelling have never been very good even at the best of times. "Spell Check" has been a great help. I just wish I knew how to get it back. (too many computer moving parts I guess)
My Gatling Gun was great fun! I had the Try Pod and the Field Carriage for it. (none of the other goodies like you had)
It always attracted a great deal of attention when I got the ok to bring it to an event.
But, it always required a great deal of preparation and work, both before and after. And few of the "Event Participants" ever knew or realized this part of "their fun".

now # 3 ( traded for a P38 , its the Luger replacement , so close ) what I traded ? well I done good ....real good !

A little while back I got to erase #1 from my list. An all USA parts USFA black powder framed 4-3/4" 45 Colt.
Didn't get the initial smile off my face for about 10 days and it comes back every time I open the safe and take that beauty in hand. The first time I shot it I smiled for the rest of that day.

Ok, my list of bucket guns, in no particular order
Ruger Super Blackhawk, as it was the pistol I learned to shoot with. Got it, finally.
G. I. Issue 1911 A1, the first pistol I had to qualify with... Which took a bit of a steep curve, after shooting mostly revolvers. Prefer a Singer, or Springfield over Colt.
Thompson 45 with drum.
1873 Winchester, as seen in Last Samurai.
Colt Dragoon
Desert Eagle 44... Not sure why.
LAWS Rockets, just because.
A Western Auto badged 22 LR, because I had so much fun with it as a kid, might as well share with the grandkids.

I have 2-3 Desert Eagle catalogs from over the years if that would curb yer droolin' some. Picture they say is worth a thousand words, but as far as I know neither words or pictures can cure the yern to have in hand. :'( ;D

I've sometimes gotten it down to one. Then I get that one and another one pops up like whack-a-mole. Actually it's usually something that someone here writes about, especially with pictures, that gets me dreaming...

For a start I have too many - but some of that is junky stuff - needs a fire sale on some of it
1) would like to trade my 71 Browning off for a good 1886 short rifle
2) dont have a 73 - good one of those would be nice
3) maybe another 76 - a short rifle in 50-95
4) this should be at no 1 - time enough and the incentive to complete two muzzle loader builds that have been hanging around me for years
5) trade my sharps or get it rebarreled
Zero interest in military stuff
Pistols are too much trouble for us downunder (I do have a couple BP ones legit)
At the end I would like some space in my gun storage - so - sell rubbish - trade a few - maybe buy one or two - net loss in numbers - net gain in quality!

Bucket List-Nothing I'm gnawing at my knuckles at present to get but, do have a little list of maybes!
1) Another Colt Python maybe two or three, Blued 6" only. More of an investment. Good grief savings accounts only paying 1 or 1 1/2%. Chicken feed compared to what a Python can be bought for and resold down the road for the way they're going.
2) Colt Detective Special 2" 38 Special. Always liked and wanted one back in the LEO days. Should have gotten one then, $125 compared to $600-900+ I see them at now. Same as with Pythons-bought first in 79' new for $300, should have bought a pallet of em. Did get a S&W Model 60 back in the day (76') new for $125, still have the little gal.
3) 1873 Winchester (copy) either in 38/357 or 44 Special, 20-24" barrel (prefer octagon). No want or time for any of the bottleneck original calibers. No desire to go out and buy the whole list of needed die's, brass, molds, sizers, etc. Not concerned about the 'PC" term of "they weren't in that caliber back then" any more I give a rats anal orifice about the other PC term (Political Correctiveness)-they both can "pound sand"!
Walll'', thar' it is-my sort of bucket list! Any of ya got any of these ya want to get rid of cause' their taking up to much space in yer safe, I'll take em' ifin ya want to give em to me, even pay shipping and send ya several McDonalds gift certificates. ;D ;D

Oh WOW, what a kind and tempting offer. I actually have this "thing" for McDonalds Fries. I can smell them little suckers from a quarter mile. Make me helpless. Oh My .......... Goodness.
I have thus far resisted my lust for for the DE 50AE. Trepadacious are I. Anybody remember the FABULOUS "AUTO MAG" Space age wonder pistol (or carbine with the tax). Sorta like a Ruger Mk 1 on some really real royds. Hadda have one. Put alla my box tops together along with a pile of cash and had my LGS order me one up. Getting that thing outta the box was almost mystical. Once outta the box, getting that thing to shoot was ..... futile. I mattered not what I loaded it with, how I loaded it, what cases I used, what bullets I used, what primers I used, what powders I used. Jam-0-Matic. I could get maybe two or three rounds out of it at most. What a GROAN. Was some popular though. No matter where I took it, "others" just went Ga Ga over it. Until we shot it.
Then one day, out of the blue, I got a call. "Heard you have an Auto Mag" from the other end of the line. "Wanna sell it" follow up line. Where can we meet says I. Gave me what I paid for it. Never asked a question. Never heard from him again. Must have been happy with it. I know I was happy. So happy to se it go away I could have kissed him (Almost).

truth is I already had the malady...Ha ! I have a S&W 60 and a Mod 36 …. not to mention Dexter & Sinister.

Agreed. Can't hurt to take a peek. Were I directed to a Desert Eagle 50AE for .... say ..... a couple hundred bucks, I would certainly take a look. Check real hard to see if it were functional. Fondle it some. Drool a little. Pay retail?? Knot Hardly

Two on my still hunting list. A S&W Triple Lock is my main goal. I would like to replace a Mauser Broomhandle I had to part with to get a Colt Bisley, that was such a fun gun!

Purely by chance, I was in the small Hardware/Gun store in the next county over. I needed a new swing blade, but thought I'd check out the "back room" where they keep the other hardware. Same old stuff, same old stuff... Then I look up in the corner, and there is a Tommygun with drum mag, $1,400ish. It is sadly still there, but I am scheming and pondering on how to get it home... Without destrying my marriage.
My boy says, "It isn't interesting, unless it goes rat a tat tat tat. " I said my license doesn't cover rat a tat tat tat, only tat tat tat.

Of course it can't hurt to look! And because of the owners lay-away policy, I've got a M1889 Marlin now and I got my Civil War Remington on lay-away. Ask for Brian.. One of the 30-40's has that slick adjustable peep sight mounted on the left side of the receiver too...

Men collect firearms, women collect shoes with matching purses that naturally go with their new outfits. It’s a tale as old as time. But if you match what your toy cost with something for her she will be alot more amenable to you getting your new toy. Worked for me. Just a suggestion.
But what do I know about women.

I gotta admit, my wife doesn't buy expensive bags or shoes and clothes, any more than I do. I flat out wear stuff until it falls apart. She buys scrubs and work shoes maybe once a year, and I just ordered a new pair of flip flops and shorts. It is a little hard to justify the Tommy, after just buying an SKS, and I have a varmint gun, deer gun, sidearm... The Thomson is frivolous.

Sticking just with cowboy guns:
--1894 Winchester rifle in 30-30. 28" barrel, half magazine (a 30-30 version of one of the "family" rifles)
--1895 Winchester rifle in 30 USG. 28" barrel, climbin' Lyman, brass front sight with a flip-up ivory "moon" night sight, or a Beech combination front sight. (Grandpa had one very similar when he made his pilgrimage in search of the Lost Dutchman)
--an Oviedo-made El Tigre carbine, in 44 Largo (44WCF). (For sentimental reasons, they have a good feeling for me that the 92 Winchester never had.)
--1899 Savage--the thinking man's lever action--carbine in 38-55. Lyman 2A tang sight in back, and a Marbles #5 duplex in front. (Strikes me as the ideal ranch rifle.)
--a certain 1873 Shopkeeper in 44 Special, built on a Great Western frame, in .44 Special. (one of my favorite carry guns, disappeared years ago).

I understand the budget. Keeping myself on one has kept our family happy. Yup, missed out on some nice toys over the years, but worth it.

@Major2, yeah, I keep seeing stocks, but no matching fore ends. I've been shopping Lee's, since he did me right with the SKS front sight. Being broke helps one to learn patience ;)

Congrats Major on getting two of your Bucket List guns!
I added 1 to my list today as well, a C96 Broomhandle, a Bolo in 7.63. I had one before that got traded to acquire a Colt Bisley [a genuine Colt SAA was also on my bucket list.
So my "Grail Gun List" looks like this:
1. S&W Ist Generation Hand Ejector "Triple Lock" preferably in .44 Special [ still looking]
2. P-08 Luger, got it a 1915 DWM with Imperial German markings
3. Colt SAA, got a 1905 nickel Bisley in .38 WCF
4. Tommy Gun, an Auto Ordnance M-1, got it
5. C96 Mauser, probably made from 1921-25

Bought one of these critters, waiting for the fedex man to arrive. Next week I?ll see if I bought a good West Hurley 1927a1 or a lemon. The semi auto Thompson from Auto Ordnance and Kahr seem to be the American version of Uberti. They can run but first....
And don?t forget the nfa paperwork to sbr it....
1927a1 came yesterday and does run but only 4 or 5 of my 11 mags seem to work. The others need tweaking or modifying.
12-6-20 after a whole lot of work it became a 1927a1 sbr.

i'll go along with 1,3,& 5 and add a S&W First model Russian in .44 Russian, 8" barrel nickel plated with scrimshawn ivory grips.

I'll list mine in hopes a it becomes an interesting thread and/or maybe additional advertizment might bear fruit in my quest .
in no real order then...
1. A C96 broomhandle Mauser ( quirky and cool I've always like them )
2. A Colt SAA in 32/20 ( has to be a COLT , even a 3rd. gen. )
3. Luger (Erfurt 9mm P-08)
4. A 95 Winchester Carbine in 30/40 Krag 30-06 ( A Miroku Browning would work )
5. Thompson M1921 or M1927 - M1928A1 *
Happy to say...these are acquired ;D
Added the #4 :D in 30-06 ( horseshoes & hand Grenades' quote applied , worked for me )
* and for now a PPS-43c is a stand in for # 5 ;)

Shot one of my recent "Bucket List" guns today - a mint 1950's Colt Officers Model Target in .38 Spl. Came to me unfired.
At 15 yds off hand it put 6 rds into a group you could cover with a quarter. Ammo was my +P .38 Spl. IPSC load. I expect even better once I get to know it.
Next up will be my 1990's Colt 4" Python that similarly came to me unfired. I agonized over this one, but if I don't shoot it, I've got an expensive paper weight that I'm preserving it for some future owner I may not even like .... ;D

And # 1 has been realized ;D
Short-barreled (“Bolo”) Mauser C96 pistol. 1920's production chambered in 7.63mm Mauser. Serial number on the frame, locking frame, barrel extension, stocks, hammer Etc. are a match. . Replacement bolt stop has been installed and springs were changed out—originals of these will be included. Also included are two stripper clips.
Now I have to get a new bucket list :-\

The Prvi rounds are on backorder , and I got on the list to be notified when they back in stock
I did manage to find 3 loose boxes of Fiocchi today ( last loose boxes ) that on the way , now that is also BO.

I handload for mine, but it launches the cases into the neighboring county, so I loose most of them. (Since I have a home shooting range, I suppose that I still have them, but they're not readily available.) That means that I don't actually shoot mine as often as I'd like, but I get it out to look at and impress visitors more often. Every once in a while, I disassemble mine just to admire the design and workmanship.
That's a great looking Bolo that you have there. That's actually my favorite C96 variation, although I don't own one.

I have some concern in that regard , I too have brass garden at the home plinking range.
What I intend to do is lay out a painting tarp, and set up a fabric deflector on tripod to bounce the ejected brass off of to collect.
I will order the dies & brass , but I have not found a suitable bullet as yet .
Thanks for the compliments, Its my favorite also , the shorter barrel is in better proportions IMHO.

Ruler Vaquero in .357 (for my cowboy rig)
M1 Garand
Winchester mod 94 in 30-30
Mersin & Hulbert second series, anything I can still shoot
Marlin 1895 in 45-70, ideally the trapper model

I started this thread just over 3 years ago and today ...I reached my list goals # 5 came home :)
I was not planning a visit to my friendly LGS today.... a little too sad yet for the "habitual weekly visit & lunch Saturday" with my late buddy. :-[
BUT...I had to pick up a prescription for arthritis in my hand ...so I was 1/2 way there and said "what the hey " :-\
I had no clue going in ...all the regulars were there today , I hit the door someone said hey "here he is" :)
They had this set aside for my first refusal.... knowing I had wanted one , and missed one about a year or so ago....
I was "Wow , cool ..... um :o how much ? Planets aligned $800 out the door DONE DEAL !
13 " barrel , came with the 39 round drum...I'd prefer and I need to try and find some stick mags...20 or 30 round one or 2 will do.

Interesting. Obviously I'm not super familiar with those. It actually looks like a lot of fun as-is.
I do have some experience with a few original Model 1921AC Thompsons owned by the agency I used to work for. Because of their antique status, they didn't come out very often, but I got to shoot one. I didn't actually shoot it with the buttstock removed, but I did handle it that way and dreamed of Chicago gangsters...

My take on it...the 27's had a removable stock , by WWII and the A1 the stock was screwed on ( a war time cost concern )
which also deleted the drum Mag mounts in leu of sticks.
AO (West Hurley) produced Model 1927A5 Semi Auto Thompson Pistol (mine)
( as does Karr ) a model that is considered a pistol " 1927A-1, Deluxe Pistol "
Apparently. there is an adaptor to add the butt a to make an SBR
I'm just getting into to it as to options...I need some stick mags first , I may SBR it at some point , if the current Fed's don't lock it out ::)

I just traded off the PPS-43 C (I had traded for) ..the warm fuzzy novelty I felt had worn off ...part of that was feeding it

The difference here is THIS is something I wanted since I was kid, it was on my WANT LIST ...
I have lots of 45 ACP already loaded , brass, bullets too.... Powder > Check...primers ? Ok for while...
Dunno what the current piano players have in store for the next 4-6 years :-\
