You can also try www.Mercurysutler.com. They have a very fine boot presently on sale which is a Civil War-1880s cavalry boot. Excellent product...excellent price.

thank you for the help. what do some of you other Indian War Cavalry reenactors use for boots? what do you like or dislike about the ones you have? Im trying to get all these question answered so I don't make an expensive purchase that down the road Im not happy with.

While I have used the same pair of 1872-style cavalry boots for over 20 years, when I am in "undress" for formal events, I wear a pair of Wellingtons.  They were in use in the Indian Wars period.

It depends how historically accurate you want to be and the time frame you want to portray. There were three patterns used in that time frame, the CW, the M-1872, and the 1876. The Best quality boots and shoes I've found are from Missouri Boot and Shoe. I've had my M-1872 shoes for about 15 years. Returned them one to have them resoled after I walked throught the first soles. I wore them every weekend for about 9 years. I've only had my 1876 boots a couple of years. They're the most comfortable footwear I own.

Here is a plug for Fall Creek Sutlery ...My latest pair, Andy Falks measured me for himself...in 1990  ;) on the "Glory" set
That's 19 in Boot years  ;)  16 of those Cavalry reenacting  :P and several more films.

These same boots serve me well in my weekend western shooting. The above are Officers knee flap, two piece, CW era..
I also have a pair of Andy's CW era two piece, enlisted Knee flaps, rough side out,  I bought these in 1984 and have been re-soled once and re-heeled twice.... they are worn, but still keep going.
when planets align...do the deal !
