I rewatched Johnny's "Too Old for Bull" YouTube channel.
It had me reflect on my own memories.
I recall, we did not have a TV until 1956, a Zenth B&W tabletop model in a metal cabinet.
I had not seen Color on a set until 1959, and I recall it was Bonanza.
I seem to recall our first Color set was a Zenth console
I think 1962. BTW Zenth was then a USA made product.
My Dads first Air Cond car was a 1964 Pontiac Catilina.
My first car was 1967 Dodge Van with no air Cond.

Zenth was top tier product made domestically
now if is even made by brand anymore it's all Asian. In fact, I don't believe there are any US Television Manufacturers.

Pontiac, ceased to exist as GM Division, brand or even
Model. And Dodge is no longer US owned or even assembled in the US, with Mexico and Canada as assembly points.

Foreign Auto manufacturers make their Cars here in the US.
Domestic Auto Companies are owned by Foreign Holdings or have ceased to exist.

Things WE took for granted were material things,

I offer these:

Your Family
Your Friends
Your Fur pals
Food
a Roof over one's head
Your Health
an Internet to explore
or just being ALIVE.

HAVE Great Day, The SUN came up and I'm grateful for the fact that the sun is shining again.

Johnny, so good to see you back! Praying here for ya still.
Pretty good day at work, three of us there, so we could keep ahead of everything. I work with really nice folks, so it is a good thing to go in to work at a place that is enjoyable. Redeemed a nice condition Savage 99 from layaway today, been wanting one of those since reading Roy Chapman Andrews as a kid. For those of you unfamiliar with him, he is the real life dinosaur hunter who Indiana Jones was modeled after.

Heading to verk in a bit to upgrade the collection software.

Likebutton @major 2!
Worked today and we were hopping all day. Next couple of months will be this way. We have a new guy starting and this will be great if he works out. Got my Sunday School lesson ready for tomorrow.
Weather was "dreary" here today, overcast and temps in the low 60s. Lots of wind coming in ahead of predicted heavy rain tomorrow.
You guys take care.

What caliber of 99 and what model?

Mine is an early 80's and 243, not the best of the calibers but useful aka good enough for what I do with it, just not the cool factor.  Was a Musket in 303 Savage a while back but way more than I got.  1X3.5 World Class, shoots just over 1 moa after work and feeding it what it likes.  Good Enough.  There was enough wood to actually whittle a proper stock, probably shaved off a 1/4 pound of the forend.

Looked like this before.  Could use some oil again, may see if I can darken it a little, some sort of wood, likely ash, at least it's not black Tupperware. They quit making them before that shame was put on them.

Nothing wrong with it except that black moulded plastic seems to steal a gun's soul.  Had to remove both factory sights for that low scope on mine.  BTW that is the perfect deer scope, been several years but I bet when I get around to working with it, it will put 3 of those loads in the butt carrier 1 inch high at 200 and about 2 1/2 inch group since the Barnes X ain't the sweet load, that one uses a Hornaday 87 BTHP.

Going to try and deer hunt next year. Got the spot figured, my friend the landowner says go for it.  Can park in a flat ditch. Brown dog can nap in the car and watch. About 75 yards across a flat bean field which will be cut. And it has such a different bark if they hear it, they will check for a message and come drag when they have time. I should be able to gut it, will just take my folding stool to the carcass. With any luck and based on previous experience it should land about 50 yards from point shot and they almost aways try to escape in the open rather that hit the narrow timber.

Cool gun and great plan to shoot for  :)
I never have handled one of those, in fact the only Savage I've ever owned is this Model 1907.
It's a honey of a little pistol.

Good afternoon folks, 59 here and supposed to start working it's way colder the next couple days. Lady C is working away in the kitchen, preparing for our Church's Thanksgiving Testimony Service tonight and then for ongoing preparations for Thursday. One of our Nieces came by with flowers for her today and one of our Greatnieces, Emma was by helping with baking as well. One Nephew is arriving in a bit from Texas with more family arriving tomorrow. Place will be packed! God is certainly good.

The 99 is in .300 Savage, got dies and some brass coming and a couple boxes of ammo, so I am in pretty good shape right now. Had to put a new front sight on as the original was in rough shape, so now it is sporting an Ivory bead on the nose. Mine is an older one with the safety by the lever and drilled for receiver sights. I found one that has been modified, but my gunsmith thinks he has a correct base for it.

Yes, HE is  :)

Looking forward to photos and of course of the Vicky  ;)

Talked to Johnny today, rehab is proceeding well, yesterday he completed 130 steps with a walker  :D
He is hoping to come home to Florida in about 2-3 weeks, fingers crossed Johnny.

Sold one of my 73's today (it was in the Classifieds) it's going to a new owner in Washington State.
Thinning the depth of the duplicate herd somewhat.
Truth be known it had not been out of the safe, other than once over wipe down with oil cloth since 2017.
I was some surprised there was no interest here on CAS City.
It sold in one day posted elsewhere, sign of the nature of things I guess  ::)

300 is cool caliber. I found mine new in 2002 for $175 so decided 243 was OK.  It is but for deer I prefer a premium bullet lix a Barnes X or Nosler Partition.  Not need most times but cheap insurance to prevent crawling around on your hands and knees looking for blood as the temp is dropping fast. Done that before, not my deer but we all go help.

Them gun writers that have promoted total energy dump inside are plain idiots. Exit holes bleed very bad, entrance holes drip and not much.

50 mph gusts with 35 mph steady today, will have to rake the entrance tomorrow. Leaves come in every time Riley wants out. He did good today; he finally made friends with the striped, grey cat from across the street. His next goal is the fox; it comes closer all the time.  Yellow cat he don't like. Squirrels are fine, him and them don't care.

It's the season for family, friends and giving thanks, enjoy !

I've probably shot around 25 deer, and never had a bullet fail to exit. I'm not sure how light and fast a bullet would have to be to not exit a broadside shot on a whitetail. 300 grain 45-70 bullets tend to "dump" most of their energy into the ground behind the deer, but they still never seem to go far when hit right. No sign of expansion, exit isn't much bigger than the entrance. 308 gets similar results, but more meat damage and messy field dressing with lung/heart shots.

50F here and sunny, but the temps are continuing to drop. I was up early today, got the garage swept out and heaters going, tables and chairs cleaned, so hopefully it will be warm enough for the guys to eat out there tomorrow. First batch of family arrived last night, another due here in a couple of hours and more late this evening. This place is gonna be packed out! And Uncle Kevin [me!] is gonna get tons of hugs! If you don't hear from me for a couple days, don't worry. And may God bless you all.

One was a 270 with those 130 Ballistic tips, twice.  One hit the ground; the other took a couple hours to find. Another was a 150 gr not a core-loc in a 30-30. Went a short way and died in a thicket.  If not for fresh show would have never been found.  An 8mm mouser with some foreign made soft point.  In all fairness they were larger deer.  We are far enough north we tend to get some bigger ones.

Brother has run a couple with 270 and the Barnes on frontal chest shots, that don't exit but tend to stick on the skin in the back. But never need tracked. LOL, he shot one in the neck this year and a chunk of vertebrae went into the opposite shoulder and stayed, kinda mess the shoulder up.

The Barnes X and likely any brand of copper makes a caliber size entrance and about twice that going out with minimal damage, I think they are worth the little extra, just for the once in a while.
