#3 daughter and I took the horses for a ride. #3 daughter had the pacer mare doing the pace and the extended walk of a Tennessee Walker.  :) I rode the trotter gelding. He wants to either walk slow or trot.  ::)

Good evening folks, 66 and raining here, strong storms expected the rest of the night. Worked the last two days at the gun store and quite busy as deer seasons start tomorrow.  Gonna relax with an old movie tonight and make some popcorn to go with it.

Slight chance of frost tomorrow night, but slight, and likely no up here by the water tower.

Riley had competion this weekend, with Penny. My first time meeting her. Lucy another Basset was our camp dog for years and mine stayed home with Rita.

Mary makes butter and I make bread and it works great, Ron passed in 2023 so it was a bit weird without him and Lucy. Ron always kept the fires going, showed how to make one with a bow drill or flint and steel.

Went to the last CAS match of the season here yesterday, They used the same stages 1-5 from Heluva Rukus the state SASS championship, I shot clean and shot all stages faster than at the state match, 26.66 seconds faster total. Wish I would have done that last month. ::)  ::)
I was 6th over all and 2nd in category.

Afternoon all.

Mrs TK and I are back home. It was a good trip, spent a lot of time at the beach chasing hermit crabs. Also went to the Humboldt Timber Heritage Association museum in Samoa, CA. Very neat, large collection of logging equipment. Their bread and butter is the 8(!) steam locomotives on site. They let you crawl all over them. The fellows on site that day were working on a restoration of the boiler on an 1894 production "gypsy" locomotive, and let me turn some wrenches with them, which was very neat.

Like always, got busy and didn't take a lot of pictures.

Doing some experimenting on not being dependent on wood fires.  They have one good size firepit, but it was not close to our camp and those braziers so many use really don't produce enough coals for more than one oven.

New or new to me type charcoal, it is real charcoal not part charcoal, brown coal, uncharred sawdust limestone and whatever.  It is brickettes but although a bit more than the Kingsford style it is still a lot less than the lump charcoal. I can cook with that type and don't need no stinking chart, but this is better, was like uniform wood coals.  Cooked two loads of biscuits, rhubarb cobbler, rye bread, chicken and some veggies as well as running pork and kraut for several hours slow. There were enough coals left to have baked a couple loads of biscuits also. All that was one bag.

I used an enamelware dish pan for the charcoal and have two more to use to cook in so I can run 4 ovens most time in those situations.  A lot of people use those galvanized feed pans and get upset when I point out how dang dumb this is. (Google Zinc fume poisoning if you don't know why.) ::)  This looks like the solution.

First time camping with Mary since 2019, she makes butter and after Ron passed and I was out of commission, she had to make bread or hope someone would.  Also was odd, Lucy has also passed but we now have Penny who is almost a year. It worked out but they had to compete for attention, but they both got plenty.

Will spend the rest of the fall and winter into getting the camp set up right as well as my apartment.  Matt could not make it, and I didn't want to mess with his wall tent, will get a small wedge over winter. It's only about 35 miles so I just drove up Friday and Saturday, Sunday being a break camp day.

Good morning folks, 52 here right now, supposed to hit 69 today with heavy overcast/possible rain. Taking friend to Little Rock today to see her husband in the hospital. He had a stroke 2 weeks ago today, has been through ICU,surgery, then a regular room and is supposed to go to rehab today. Carol is around 80 and is worn out as is their son, who has been busting his tail with work, caring for them and his own family with kids. Did a bit of straightening up the house as my wife gets in tomorrow, back from Myrtle Beach, where she's been for the last week. I've been fairly good, kept the laundry up and the dishes done, so it's not a mess.

69 here and sunny. Going to leave in a bit to pick up my Missus who is flying in to Little Rock this afternoon from a visit with her cousin in Myrtle Beach. Got the place straightened up, so it looks good for her getting home. I did screw up by putting some new plastic storage bins in the dishwasher, never occurred to me they would melt! Oops... :o

Since I will be using some charcoal next year, I was wanting to get a couple bags of that stuff I used this weekend.

Brickettes but just charcoal, not all the crappy coal and stuff.  Also was cheaper than the lump type.

Found this and now there is 80 pounds of charcoal outside.   ;D
