Capt'n Jack

I find that many cartridge pouches have a pocket for tools and cleaning gear (/).  I was wondering, besides the multi blade screwdriver often seen, what else was carried in this pouch.  Pull through (cart rifles), patches, spare parts, and so on?  Any one have thoughts on this subject.  I want to fill these pouches correctly.  Thanks for all suggestions, Captn Jack.
Capt'n Jack was my great great grandfather, a Captain of the Ky Cavalry in the Civil War.  He lived to a ripe old age.

It has been extremely difficult to find anyone who was there at the time.  In fact impossible.  I think you would find it to be "correct" to put just about anything handy in there.  Patches, Ball of Twine, Snuff Tin,  Cap Tin.  What ever, sort of like a Possibles Bag.  Might want to skip the tooth brush though, not real common.

In a cartridge box for a rifle with a ramrod/cleaning rod you could carry a screw-on cleaning jag for the ramrod and some cleaning patches.

In a carbine box you could carry a pull-through cleaning string and some patches.

There isn't really room for bulky objects in these cartridge box pockets.

Things like an oil bottle etc. would have to go in your haversack.

Apparently a fork/spoon was one option, if you haven't seen this thread yet (or maybe it's what got you wondering):
