Forgive me, for I have sinned
« on: April 08, 2023, 11:09:31 AM »
On my Short Rifle 45/60, someone must have filed the dikkens out of the front sight dovetail, and none of the half dozen or so marbles front sights would fit snugly. Had an order from Midway so I grabbed a Fiber Optic sight to try out and low and behold, a snug fit!

Sometimes hitting the bottom surface of a sight with a center punch one (or more) times can snug it up in a loose dovetail as well.  I'll bet that fiber optic sight is a lot easier to see, though.  :)

I did put a few divots in the dove tail, didn't help enough.

the old line comes to mind: "a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do...."  If it fits and puts you back in business plus it seems it is easier to see sounds like all is well.  The sight looks good in place.  Let us know what you think after giving it a try!!

On my Uberti 73, the PO had added a globe sight.... I exchanged it for a Rocky Mountain blade.
It was a tad loose so I cut a brass shim from a sacrificial 38 Special case.
The partial curve shape along with the thickness of the brass making it a bit springy.
That was in 2007, still working  :)
when planets align...do the deal !
