Gunville Stocks
« on: October 19, 2022, 04:36:34 PM »
This may not be a nice posting but I need some insight into what I am experiencing with this company.

Have you ever ordered a stock from them directly?  Not a side company that sells their products at a higher cost.

How long did it take to get the stock pattern you ordered?

Now here is, the circumstances behind these questions.  At the end of March I won an 1892 that required the forearm and buttstock to be replaced.  I search the web for the best deal for both pieces of wood.  Gunville was the best result for a 95% 1894 Rifle configuration(nosecap forearm and crescent buttplate - buttstock) that will also fit the 1892.  I called at the end of March spoke to one of the gentleman(they said it was April 1, when I called, OK).  I called person to person, I did not use their website page to order.  At that time, he took my info and stated it would be 6 weeks for the stocks to be completed.

Well in June, I called again but was told 'not yet'.  Then in early September, I thought I was finally going to get the stocks shipped.  Gave them address and CC#.  They stated only a day or a week and they would get it out.  Here we are now, in the middle of October and still nothing.

What has been your experience and what do you think/suggest my chances are in receiving a set of stocks from them?

Do I just go out to the secondary supplier and order at a high price?

Thanks for any comments

First step for me would be to insure they received no CC payment.  Then, I'd bite the bullet and re-order the lumber from the Higher Priced Spread.  Getting "nothing" for cheap is still "nothing."

PS:  I'd also order '92 specific sets.

Thanks for the comments.  The CC has not been charged.  I have been checking the statement on about a daily basis since September, hoping it would be charged and shipped.

Coffinmaker, your comment about a specific 1892 set sort of caught me off guard.  In my initial searches I did not find a listing for specific 1892 wood/design.  Gunville was the only one I came across that said in the text '1892' while the title called it 1894.  I was under the impression that the 1894 had a similar receiver tang pattern as the 1892 and therefore the wood for either was interchangeable.  Do you know of a different source/company that offers just a specific 1892 patterned wood?

Thanks again.

editted:  Precision Gun Stocks are the more expensive Gunville stocks and Macon Gunstocks state 1892/1894. ???

 :)  Black River  ;)

Actually, no.  I have diddly experience with the '94.  Just seemed odd the wood would be listed for two different rifles.  Although there is interchangeability in the Uberti line of Toggle Link rifles.

My "Go-To" would be Macon Gun Stocks.  Did some business with them inna past.

Coffinmaker & Kent,

I am bringing this old post back up to Thank both of you for your suggestions of Macon Stocks.

I gave the 'Titled' company until the day before Thanksgiving to get back to me but as you can guess they did not.  I called Macon at about 4:00PM on that Wednesday and two weeks later it was at my door.

It is now a Christmas present because I did not plan on starting right away.

Again Thanks.
