Spittoons

Whiptail Moses:
Not sure if this is the forum to share antiques/loot in, but spittoons seem an appropriate historical topic.

Here's a pic of a Central City, CO saloon in the 1870s (courtesy Denver Public Library). (note the child, I assume an employee):

I recently picked up the same type of spittoon; Enamelled, cast iron. This one has a "S |" mark on the base. (I just washed it, my aim isn't that bad!):

And for pocket use, check out this one, with a patent date of 1885. I wonder how soon afterwards it was produced, esp considering they list the month and day on the patent?

Tsalagidave:
Nice pocket sized cuspidor.

Rube Burrows:
Pretty interesting.
We had a brass spittoon on our bus in high school. We were a very rural school and lots of country boys out there dipping and chewing.  ;D

The big one is interesting but that personal brass model is just cool. (smile)

Delmonico:
Vulgar heathens, the Gentleman's term is cuspidor.
