As an aside, I think next year we should take a picture of all the Krags in attendance in one or two racks.  I bet there haven't been that many running Krags together since about 1917!

I agree a group picture would be cool, but. . . at the shoot at Western in 2003, they had a shoot-off between Krags and 1903 Springfields (since in the early days target shooters swore the Krag was more accurate).  There were at least 45 Krag shooters, plus the 1903/1905/1906/1903MkI/1903A1, a couple of 1903A3s, and even a National Match.  All told, almost 100 of Springfield's finest designs, all shooting ball-equivalent loads.

As I recall, there were 3 events that went into the aggregate: "Mad Minute" (as many shots as you could fire, 200 yards, on a single IPSC silhuette), 100/200/300 precision (10 shots each, on a bullseye target), and 600 yard precision (10 rounds, bullseye target).  I've probably got the results somewhere, but Krags didn't make the top 10 (maybe even top 15).  I shot it 3 times (Krag, 1903A3, and a K98k for comparison), and scored 3rd with the 1903A3, around 20th with the Krag, and my Mauser score was ~5th place.  Great way to spend an afternoon!

Note for the expansion-era shooters: the '03s had several problems with bolt part breakage, particularly in the Mad Minute.  Might want to make sure you have spare parts, especially the collar and firing pin tip.   I don't recall the Krags having any parts issues.

Try here for a start.  New barrel made.  https://www.winchesterbarrels.com/

When I was looking at barrel reliner's, it appeared from their statements that SRC (carbines) cannot be relined because of insufficient metal.  I could be wrong though.

BROW / Re: What caliber is my rolling block

Seems straight walled or at least no bottle neck. Case length without bullet will be 1.680 or close to it.

BROW / What caliber is my rolling block
« Last post by Logangrimnar on June 28, 2022, 03:15:18 PM »
So I posted earlier about the rolling block that I purchased hated with an obviously new replacement barrel. It is definitely a remington. It has the number 529 on the top and bottom tang. No other markings (serial number?)
The rifle was sold to me as a 38-55. I slugged the bore by driving a sinker through it. It measures 356! Obviously not a 38-55. Any guesses? I'm probably going to have to chamber cast it but thought I'd ask.

Just went and checked, and happy to report mine is the right one!  To be honest, I'm sort of surprised we've never had that happen before.  (At least, I don't THINK it has..........)  Good luck!

The Winchester Model 1892 / Source for barrel replacement or relining
« Last post by Doc Holloman on June 28, 2022, 02:37:14 PM »
I have an original 92 SRC, made in 1904 in .38-40.  Would like to bring it into shootable condition.   It has a couple of issues with bullet feed (at least it does with dummy rounds,) but I think those are solvable.  What is the real showstopper is the condition of the bore.  It is pretty much shot out.

I would like to keep it in .38-40.  I shoot  a 73 in that caliber for Wild Bunch  and reload for it.   So can anyone point me to a source for replacing the barrel or relining it?

Thanks
Doc sends.
