The Winchester Model 1876 / Re: Winchester 50 Express
« Last post by shrapnel on Yesterday at 12:34:35 PM »
I dearly appreciate these old 1876’s and would love to to have an original but they carry such a premium nowadays (especially the 50’s) I’ll make do with me reproductions.

What load did you use for your 100 yard group.

I am using a 318 grain gas check bullet, sized .512, and AA5744 powder…

The Winchester Model 1876 / Winchester 50 Express

I just picked up this original 1876 Winchester in 50 Express. These guns are rare and especially in this condition. I already have a Colt Lightning in 50 Express, so I don’t have to go searching for dies and components to shoot this rifle.

It came with Freund sights, both front and rear. Those sights are different than what you expect to see on these old Winchesters, but they do give you more sighting options.

I took it to the range and with those open sights, was able to shoot this 3 shot group at 100 yards.

Now I have to wait for gophers to come out to get some practice deer hunting next fall.

:)  Black River Smith (Not Smythe)  ;)

Another Plus One for Abilene.  Several Lustrum ago, Uberti "standardized" throughout their offerings.  Rifles were most apparent.  Most ALL the individual parts with the exception of the actual receiver are interchangeable.  This was first noticed in the Inletting for the Tangs/Stocks.

As confirmed by Abilene, What you would like to do has been done (by several folks) and is not at all a "Dumb" idea.  Can be a really cost effective solution to your desire.

Play Safe Out There

The Powder Room - CAS reloading / Re: Question About Primers
« Last post by Froogal on Yesterday at 09:43:14 AM »
I've loaded up some .45 black powder cartridges with magnum primers and those work just fine.

I've also loaded .38s and .357s with small pistol magnum primers and absolutely could not notice any difference between the magnum primers and the standard primers.

Winchester large pistol primers are just that. Large pistol. Magnums are not even offered.

I have CCI large pistol magnum primers because that is what I could find. I will use them just like standard primers.

I've not heard of any. Probably have to be a custom thing.
