Title: Spencer rimfire reloadable brass.
Post by: Dave Fox on April 23, 2022, 04:51:10 PM
Fella on another site acquired a Starr carbine in .56-56 he wants to shoot. Apparently Dixie no longer stocks the .56-56 cases machined to accept offset .22 blanks as primers. Any source out there for a couple pieces of brass for this guy?

Thanks, MOREARMS:

Fascinating about a Starr converted to C-fire.  Perhaps you can share photo's of the Starr conversion?
Apologies to our admired Moderator if this is off-topic. Smiles.

Sorry I don't have any photo's of the new rolling block with the centered firing pin, still uses the original rear falling block.

Joining a little late to this thread, and am new to Spencer’s.  Does this discussion imply it’s possible to reload a modern cartridge to shoot in an original rimfire Spencer without modifying it to a center fire block?   I’ve never heard of this?  Any additional details would be appreciated.

Nagloc68,
Yes, the cartridges don’t have a regular primer pocket in the center, instead they are drilled near the rim to take a 22 blank as a rimfire primer. When loaded into the chamber the 22 blank is lined up with the firing pin.

Fantastic. Kind of ingenious!   Thanks for clarifying.  Happy Independence Day!
