My interpretation of Billy the Kids Holster

Howdy Pards, This is a prototype holster I made a few weeks ago of the holster Billy the Kid is wearing in the famous photo of him.

Obviously the photo is grainy and short on details but from what detail I could see , and using some imagination.. This is what I came up with.

I made the pattern out of poster paper and then made this prototype out of a very cheap piece of 8oz Herman Oak flesh split .. The Holster Billy the-kid is wearing is unique, and likely a scabbard style holster without a mex loop skirt but I thought it would be fun to make it the way I did and i like how it .turned out

Again, not enough detail in the photos I have seen to definitely say even what barrel length the gun and holster was.. But I know the most common barrel length for a Colt saa of this era is 7-1/2”.. for some reason I imagine Billy’s cold had a cut down barrel so I made it for a 5-1/2” colt

Your Criticism and opinions are most welcome  ;D

Yeah, his def. lacks details on his photo. Hard to see if his has the mexican style loops on it but it does have the high back like in yours. I think you did a good job on the prototype.

I like it. Nothing wrong with that design. It's good to work up prototypes to prove a design. This one proves out well.

That's a great design. I really like how the skirt is sewn on at the top, instead of folded over. Very nice work.

Sewn at the top works, AND makes it easier to find smaller pieces of leather when the side is partially used.

It would be good to see the best possible version of the famous photo.
I can't see loops, but they may be there.
Nice work, OBB.
