Show and Tell
« on: February 05, 2008, 10:18:58 AM »
I'm really excited and had to tell you guys about it.
I just bought a second M-1873 Springfield. No big deal right? Lots of guys have 2 originals. I've had the one for about 10 or 12 years. It's a real early one, serial # 5726 and was made the 3rd week of March 1874. Now, the reason I'm so excited about getting another trapdoor is that the new one is serial # 5724! What are the odds of that?! 5726 is all correct while 5724 has had a couple of parts changed. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but when I do I'll let you know how it shoots.
Now if I could just find 5725.... ::)
Below are a few pictures of them. The pictures aren't great but if you click on the thumbnail you can see them better.

Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!   I once got a pair of Burnside carbines (5th Model) from two different tables at the same gun show. They are eight digits apart, and fairly low numbers!  What are the odds of that?
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

SHOW & TELL?  I gotta work on that "show" part.

Sorry no oldie here.....

My latest is a "new" model of the Winchester M1895 lever carbine in .30-40 Krag cal.
It seemed the correct rifle for Ltc T Roosevelt to carry.
And the S/N is '98....Thought that was appropriate too.

Congratulations, Colonel!     ;D

"New Toy" acquisitions are always so exciting .... I am currently awaiting receipt (on approval) of my latest: a Colt Model 1878 DA revolver which is 'likely/possibly'  one of about 1000 acquired in early 1885 by the Dominion of Canada Dept. of Militia & Defence for the North West Rebellion emergency.  Once I have it in hand and commit to the deal, I'll have to post a Show & Tell of my own ....

Trailrider,

I have a Burnside in the 71xx serial number range. Is it close to your numbers?

Congrats.  Nice Trapdoors.  I was at a local gunshow last Saturday and picked up a 1895 marked Krag Carbine in 30/40 Gov't.

It's got a good bore, but the stock is a rifle stock cut down to carbine length, a M1902 carbine rear sight with a "C" stamped on it which means that it's a reworked rifle sight installed on some carbines in 1902.  It has the Rifle barrel band w/sling swivel and a sling swivel inletted into the rear of the stock.

The butplate is steel with a trap door and it has the original metal oil can.

It's a shooter, not a collectors piece, but I plan to do some more research on it.

If anyone has any information they can add, I'd appreciate it.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.
