Nice work on the wallet Cowboy, your carving is always top notch, keep them coming pard. ::) :D
dscott, those spur straps are really sharp, using a wood plank as a design was very interesting and it works great, it gives your straps a real personal look to them. Again Welcome to our forum, were glad to have you with us, and we'll be looking for more projects from you in the future, keep up the great work. ::) :o 8) :D ;D

-
Okay, if youall are gonna hang me over this I have one last request. Use a new rope. ;D ;D
I just got off the phone with Kid Terico and he must be doing pretty good because he wanted me to post a couple of pictures of some items I just shipped out to him.
The first one is a Southern mountain style horn.
The second one is a ball pouch, actually the one on the left.
So , let the hanging commence ,but he sounded so good on the phone I would have posted a sherman tank if he had asked.
Now someone whip the horse and lets get it over with.
Gun Butcher
-
GB beautiful work, I really like it. Everyone should have at least one of your HORNS to fill out there western collection. The only thing that would make them nicer is if they were FREE. ;D They are real custom made. Thank you KT
-
Those look great GB.KT glad to see you posting pard.Dave :)
-
Man, a guy can't hardly turn around before someone else posts some good lookin work. Dscott, welcome to this find group of pards. I can tell you from personal experience that they are a great bunch, very helpful. Nice spurs straps!

Can you imagine what a feller of the period would give to have a nice horn like that and ball bag.Gun Butcher nice to see ya around,i been showin off my horn alot lately... :)
POWDER HORN, KT ::)
I just picked up a nice little display box today to put it in too
-
Very nice work, GB. I love that middle band on the horn.
-
Thanks Everyone.
Marshall that banded style of horn is truly a southern thing. It is another piece of horn heated and then cooled after it is put in place so it will shrink.

AC you are deffinately showing some OUTSTANDING work and CARVING. IT is very nice. Thank You. KT :)

Nice work, AC.
-
Thanks Pards, I need to practice to get better. But thats the way of life, right. I appreciate the comments. Keeps me going on to the next project.
Thanks again,
AC
-
Here is another test carving with some coloring that I have never attempted before. Be critical and let me know how to improve on the coloring. This was using Tandy color dyes not acrilics.
AC
-
WOW! AC they are both great!! The antiqued one is spot on and the colors are good and precise! You are becoming quite an artist in leather!! ;D
-
AC, your work is really good. I like the antique look of the first piece. The second has good color. Nice work on both.
-
AC very nice but I too like the antiqued piece better. Nice work. KT
-
Very nice work AC, u are a great carver :D
-
Now I´ve made my first dog collar, think I can improve it a little..
I cant just make westen leather, there is not enough CAS shooters

BB great idea and nice job. KT

Nice work, AC.
Good idea, to branch out like that, BB. Maybe my beagle will get a little present....
-
Maby so Skeeter, u got somting I need;-)
-
AC, I've never done any coloring, but from what I see it looks like you did a great job. The antiqued look is good too.
BhB, that's a heck of a dog collar, and Marshall Will's sure correct; people, at least here in the US spend big bucks on their pets.
-
Thanks KT, WC, BB, SL and JD. I learned alot and thats what its all about.
AC
-
I think I have posted the knife before but I just finished the sheath for my buddie at work so now he can carry the knife! It is a fairly large blade so the sheath he wanted had to be rugged enough for whatever he plans to use the knife for. I ended up drilling the stiching holes with a fine bit on my Dremel. I normally just use my awl but the leather plus the welt was too thick for me to use the awl. I don't make enough sheaths to ever justify a machine(besides the CFO/Wife says I have enough toys). Now it is time to get some new leather cuz that sheath used up my last cow. :)

Nice chinks Biscuit Joe, they look good with the hair on. ::) :o 8)
-
Thanks guys!
I usually don't care for the hair-on style of chinks or chaps, but these do catch the eye somewhat. ;D
hummmm
Now what do I do with the rest of that o'brindle hide?
A vest, says G C Rick. :-\ ???
-
Or a nice wallet.. ;D
-
MM, those loading blocks look great. They have a real quality look with that very cool woodwork. For those who shoot different loads in their pistols and rifles, these are perfect. Thanks for the pics.
-
Howdy.
Here is my new idea, its a photoframe in leather. Its just a test piece but it became nice :)
Then is the darn price setting >:(
//BhB
-
Its an opening in the top so you can change photos, and its no glass in it..
-
Great idea Bob, and this one really looks nice, I'll have to put this idea on the back burner of things to try, thanks for sharing pard.
tEN wOLVES :D
-
That's very cool, BB. The contrasting stitching is a nice touch. It looks good.
-
Hey that's cool :)
-
BB now thats a nice piece of leather work. KT
-
nice picture frame.
Chan Geer actually has patterns out for making picture frames.
pattern packs can be found here:
http://www.hidestoart.com/hides_to_art_web_014.htm
his wife was telling me that they need to design a better leg for the picture frame cause it wanted to lean too much the wrong way. Chan Geer used i think 10 oz leather for the leg and gouged a fold line in it to be able to lean the right way.
now its just leaning too much.
let us know how well the leg holds up on your picture frame.

Howdy Knucklehead
I haven't made a picture frame, but it would seem to me, the best way to make the leg sturdy would be to simply insert some thin but stiff plastic/metal/ or hard card board and cover with leather like 3/4 or 4/5 ounce, that would take care of the leaning and should keep the frame standing up straight, IMHO.
tEN wOLVES :D
-
Now I´ve made a book cover for my friend at his 30 birthday. Its antique brown and in the
background u see a photoframe that I´m working with :)
Please, criticize my work so I can be better
-
BB whats to criticize? you do nice work.kt
-
Looks good to me Bob, nice work ::) ;D
-
I made this last week. It was my first try hand stitching bullet loops.
-
Welcome to our forum Ragged Earl ;D
For your first project of sewing, I think you did fine, the next one you do with bullet loops, you might want to sew/or over lap the loop when sewing it to the belt or backing, this will give strength to the loop and keep the loop from tearing away from the belt/ or backing in this case, check our " FAQ/HOW TO " thread on bullet loops, there is a lot of valuable information there.
Either way, you did a fine job, and you can be proud of what you have done.
Regards
tEN wOLVES :D
-
I followed the FAQ. I stitched the loops to each side separately then glued/stitched the two pieces together.....Forgot to take pics during the process.
-
Good work, Earl. You'll find it's addictive.
-
BhB, far be it from me to criticize, I think it’s a fine looking project. One thing I notice is that the stitching seems to stick out a bit, which might cause unnecessary wear. In Chuck Burrows fine DVD, he talks about laying a stitch groove, then after sewing smacking down the stitching lightly with a mallet to push it into the groove.
On the other hand maybe the leather was not heavy enough to do that. Once again I think it looks good.
-
I always cut a stitching groove and then lightly tap the stitching down with a "shoemakers" hammer. It's got rounded iface to keep from marking up the leather.
Your off the a great start!
Ned
-
You are right JD, the stitches are sticking up... I´m going to tap them down. Tanx for notise and for the tip :)
-
BB, that looks really good. Very nice design.
Earl, your loading block is a fine one. Having the piece of antler on it is a good idea for pushing the last round into your rifle or maybe poking empties out of an R&D cylinder. Welcome to the forum.
-
Howdy Boothill,
The Book Cover and Picture Frame are beautiful! Excellent job of carving and finishing!
Howdy Earl,
Welcome to the Forum. Great job on your Loading Strip! As Marshall Will said, adding the piece of Antler was a real good idea. The neat thing about making you own leather is when someone asks where you bought it from, you can say "I made it myself". We look forward to seeing your future projects.
Many thanks to you Gents for sharing your work with us.
-
Thanks for the kind words fellas.
I just ordered a couple pattern packs from Will Ghormley, so I'll have some more pics up....eventually ::)
If I can remember to get the camera out I'll snap a pic of the stock cover I made before the loading strip.
*edit- by "Eventually" I mean it might take me a while to get anything done.
-
I made a frame for my youngests first kindergarden photo. It´s just oild with EVOO
-
Excellent work Bob, and that's a good looking little rascal you have there, thanks for sharing pard.
tEN wOLVES :D
-
Give that kid a noogie!!!! :D Nice frame~~ :)
-
That looks really good, BB. Does the leg on the back have a strap to limit how far back it goes?
Cute boy. Thanks for the pics.
-

Cute boy. Thanks for the pics.
No, dont have a strap, but I put metal between the leather so it dont bends.. A strap would work to.. Tanx for the tip.
-
Howdy pards got some new stuff see what you thunck.
-
and one more
-
Beautiful work Dusty, good looking straps, and I bet the Gal you made those pink chaps for is happy. ::)

DM

Thanks, pards.
Dalton, that's a leather roundel that I used to cover the two prongs at the back of a magnetic closer.
-
Gotchya. Thought maybe it had a stud coming through it or something. Looks good!
DM
-
That bag looks great, Skeeter. I can see why your wife claimed it.

-
Cool breast collar, Cowboy. Very effective. Nice work.
-
thanks to all that have showen some great work.
yall inspire me to keep pounding on leather.
here are some pics of christmas gifts that i finished. this was a dayplaner i picked up for $6.00 at fred meyers. gutted all parts and installed in this leather covering.
-
another project i finished. i purchased a small notebook from bi mart and gutted it. installed all parts in the leather covering you now see here.
-
Very cool knucklehead!! ;D
-
Knucklehead
Nice work, very cool carving
-
and a roper wallet i made. yes its a tandy kit. last time i made one of these i did a double loop lace and the lace broke after 6 months of use. this time i decided to lace it this way thinking the lace will have less chance of breaking.
while toolling this i decided to not make the basketweave border even to the edge of the wallet. i just drew lines on the leather then carved it. looks better to me without being even to edge of wallet
-
They all look great Knucklehead , nice job pard, I know who ever received them must be very happy ;D
-
thanks all. I now know taking Chan Geer's class was worth it. I am now fairly comefortable with doing flowers on leather.
before Chan's classes i would only do oak leaves. now i can do both.
-
Those are some very nice gifts. good work on them.
I also like the Keystone H brand. Very cool.
-
Dang nice.. :)
-
That's pretty cool, JD. It looks like it'll do the job just fine. The color is good. The bullet stop under the loops puts them at the right height. Nice work.
-
JD, thats à beautiful slide. How do u get the conchos over the snaps?
-
Howdy JD,
Nifty design..well done! Many thanks for sharing.
-
Good looking JD, and nice design and color, those conchos add a little class, and good looks to it, thanks for sharing pard
tEN wOLVES ;D
-
Thanks for the positive comments guys, but I posted that slide in the wrong spot; I moved it over to the Show Ye Stuff thread to go with the holsters & belt that I made it for.
BhB, Tandy makes a kit, which is just vey small screws and some washers to attach any screw back conchos to snaps or most anything else. I don't generally use the washers, so it's just a matter of finding some small screws.
-
Hey knucklehead, dang nice looking wallet. I really like the basket weave done like that. It adds a lot of interest instead of the standard square block on most wallets.
Down the road from me there is a Keystone Ranch - must be a popular name. ;)
-
For the Steampunk convention at Old Tucson Studios, I give you...
Wrist cuff double-barreled dart gun, complete with vials of poison.
;D
-
Santee those are some very cool but very interesting cuffs.

-
Howdy Santee,
Great looking Cuffs! Nicely done!
-
Santee outstanding job on your cuffs. You out did your self. KT
-
Thanks, fellas. It was fun to make 'em.
-
Santee, I just caught this, that is pretty neat, now ifin I was a steamed up punk, I see where this might have a lot of value, I have to remember this for possible things to do in the future. :-\ ::) ??? all kidding aside, you did a great job here ;D
tEN :D ;D
-
TW, I'll let you know if I sell any of it at the convention. ;)
-
I bet you do,i wouldn't mind havin them, they are way cool and actually look like an implement that someone would have made way back in the 1800s,like Artimus Gordan would have made for James West :) The original Steamers ;)
-
Yep!
-
OMG!! I have to agree with Clicker here, those are just awesome! ;D ::) ;D

Very nice work Swifty ;D
-
Looks good, Swifty. Thanks for the pics.

Had to do something for the little woman. Takes longer to do these little clutch purses than a full tooled two gun rig. LOL
-
Swifty looks great, that is some very nice tooling. I'm sure she loves it.
-
Good work, Swifty. The lacing makes a good finished edge for that tooling. Very nice.
-
There has been some beautiful work posted here lately. Many thanks to everyone for sharing this with us.
-
Swifty nice job on the covers and the clutch, I love the tooling.
-
Been watching this thread for about a year now admiring the great work and encouragement offered by everyone. I did some reading, bought a few tools, some leather, Chuck Burrows DVD's and got my feet wet. The black color came from a Vinegaroon receipe I picked up here. I really like that stuff.
I shoot Frontiersman class and wanted some gun leather that reflected the old cap & ball guns. Got the first holster finished and the second is nearly tooled. The belt will be two inches wide with a Civil War officers belt buckle. Thanks to everyone who has posted regarding working with leather. Here are a couple of pictures.
Lucky ;D

-
Lucky,
Welcome to the forum...your new holsters look great...very well done. Where are you in Tenn?
-
Thanks everybody for the kind words. I really enjoy working with leather and it was your posts that got me into this.
Outrider, I live just out of Johnson City and shoot with the Greene County Regulators, High Country Cowboys, and the Gunpowder Creek Regulators. I have also shot with the Oak Ridge club.
Lucky ;D
-
Lucky R.K. Welcome to posting. The first completed holster and the one in process are really great.
As you have already noticed from watching the thread for a year, the folks here are great, inspirational and extremely helpful.
You are sure ahead of me. I am just finishing up my fifth holster and still have not gotten to a point of full tooling. You tooling really makes me want to practice more and probably get some new specs so I can see the lines.
-
Lucky Welcome that is some real nice work for your first time. Thw tooling looks real good.
-
Okay, I gotta show off ...
I kept looking at boots that I could use both for SASS and reenacting.
The Fort Frontier Boots looked the cheapest and most comfortable boots I could find .... but there was this problem with the keyhole ... in 1850 California, they just didn't exist on the boots made out West ...
About the time I was considering boots I was also looking at the buckleless spur straps that were around ... metal was scarce in California, so they were often used.
So I made a set that matched my SASS pistol rig ... and they covered the keyhole, making them look like a pair of much more expensive (and much less comfortable) boot ...
-
Congratulations Lucky and Wadd - great work both.
-
Just finished. With a buckle a la Chuck.

Thanks Wolf Tracker, me and my buddy Jack Daniels was sittin around one night thinking of a good way to mount those horns and it just popped up. I don't know if I will ever get to go back to that lease so I wanted a way to record where and when I shot that one. Scope with crosshairs just seemed like a good idea.

-
Two Walks nice job on the sheath. I'm sure your friend will be very happy. I like the color. Is it dyed or did you leave it natural?
Thanks Wolf Tracker, my friend got his new sheath this morning ... He looked at it, turned it over and repeated the process about three times and then looked at me and said: That is beautiful, a lot better than I figured. ;D Of course I had to say: oh, you thought I would do a crappy job?
The sheath is dyed. it is about a 50/50 mix of Eco-flo Briar Brown and dark Cocoa Brown about 1oz total and then mixed with a good amount of EVOO. Followed with 2 coats of EVOO and 1 coat of Satin Sheen.
-
Nice Two Walks, and well made too, the sheath will last as long as the knife, your friend will be happy to get it.

I made my grandson a holster and belt for his birthday earlier this year, so this week I finished up this purse for my granddaughter who is turning 5 tomorrow. It's from a Tandy kit called a Miley Purse. I bought the kit last year and now they no longer carrry it, which is too bad because it's the perfect size for a child.
I used Tandy's Eco-Flo Hi Lite Color Stain in Briar Brown. If I remember correctly the design is one I got a hold of during a Chan Geer class he was holding in Portland.
It's a lot of fun to be able to make things for your family & friends with your own hands; they appreciate it and you get a great deal of satisfaction from your labors.

JD nice joob on the purse. I sure she loves it and as you said it is a great feeling to give someone something you made and have them appreciate it.

Thanks guys, I had fun making it. When Chan Geer was in Portland he had a number of designs we could use for corners of a notebook project we were making, and I chose one of those, but changed the leaves and shrunk it a litte on a copier to make it fit

yall doing some great leatherworking.
i finally got my vinegar black dye mix to work. here is my first project with the vinegar black dye.
its a windshield bag for my buddies harley. this is also the first time i put studs/spots on leather. i used the 2 prong style with tandy tools to install. seamed to work ok for me.
-
another project almost finished. used antique for color.
this will be a small notebook just big enough to be usefull and small enough to fit in a purse.
i haven't done any toolling in a while so i thought it was time to get back to doing some flowers due to attending chan geer's class in september. the basketweave side is barry king's new basketweave stamp. its real easy and fast to use.
i did use skidmore's leather cream for sealer on this one.
i just got lining glued in last night. tonight i am going to start lacing it.
-
Knucklehead. Nice job and great color. KT
-
i haven't done any toolling in a while so
Your "haven't done any for awhile" tooling sure looks might purdy ... and compared to my, "I struggle daily" tooling, it is superb.
-
Knucklehead, that windshield bag looks very good. That vinegaroon sure does the trick. Nice job on the spots. The notebook looks good, too. Thumbs up to both.
-
Here's aset of spur straps I did Last Year.
Hope you Like.
Coache

Coache,
nice spur straps. and love that possible bag. dad wont let me get near his elk hide with a knife so i can do something like that. :'(
-
the windshield bag was installed on my friends harley last sat.
-
the notebook is finished and delivered last sat. the new owner keri loved it.
i used on the outside oil from bee natural and rtc then used antique black from fiebrings.
topped it off with skidmores leather cream.
the inside is lined with pig skin and 2 oz veg tan for pockets dyed with saddle tan finished with skidmores.
-
Howdy Knucklehead,
Great job on the Windshield Bag and Notebook! Your Windshield Bag looks many times better than anything else out there in the market. Ain't Vinergaroon and Skidmore's great! Many thanks for sharing this with us.

Howdy Lucky,
Beautiful job! A lot of care and thought went into this Rig. The workmanship is excellent. Many thanks for sharing it with us.
-
Not even sure what it's called but we use it to transport our cartridges to the loadingtable (beats carrying plastic boxes back and forth) ;D
On the left a sheath I made awhile ago (with a small bowie-like knife I made from an antique breadknife of my grandmother).
Everything was handstitched and coloured using strong dark-roast cowboycoffee; too bad it looks black on the picture; in reallity it's ... well... dark-roast coffee brown. ;)
-
Rattlesnake Those look real nice. The color looks great.
-
Those look good, RP. That cowboy coffee did the trick nicely. Thanks for the look-see.
-
RP, thats a nice looking loadingstrip, I´ve made one to and I cant shoot without it :)

Dad burn it how do ya make the tacks look like that?Vinegar? Both nice hatbands with thier own personality..
Nice knob scobber too.. ;D
-
I made this phone holster because I was tired of carrying the thing in my pocket. Too many butt calls and too hard to access while seated. I used Velcro as a closure so not to damage the phone with a metal snap. I made sure the case did not contact any of the phone buttons. Thanks for looking. JW
-
Howdy Jack,
Very nice! You will get a lot of compliments on this one. We look forward to seeing your next project.

-
......and here are some spurs
Several years I try to find good reproductions of old west spurs to wear on the trails.... not original spurs. The only trash I found was that chinese/ taiwan junk stuff. So one day I burned a fire and put some metal into the fire and start to make my first pair of spurs.... After testing out some things I try to rebuilt spurs out of my collection. During the time I did 27 differt pair of reproduction spurs 99% matching to my original stuff. Here are some of them.
So long

Very beutiful Andy. Where have you get the rosett on the upper strap?
-
It was a old "Rosenstein" Kansas tool, made in 1885 - 1895.
I collect old leather tools since 17 years also to make the period correct reproductions. Otherwise it is not possible to do that.

I post some originals out of my collection, and some of my repros. If anybody wants to have more infos please let me know.

Thanks for sharing the pic of the indian
Andy Rombach

Now that one would look awsome on a set of cuffs,i like the full face.Even colored like that..
-
Hey Folks
Today I have a post a pic of a pair of Cuffs I have made.... and the originals from my collection.
On the original Cuffs you can see a machine embossed tooling, made by Herman H. Heiser in 1915 - 1920. It was one complete stamp pressed into the leather. I does not have this original embossing tool and try to tool it by hand. It was very difficult because I want it look like machine embossed.
Have a great day
Andy Rombach

Pretty cool Andy!
It would be cool to have that stamping plate.

Hey GCR
On some of his hats he use a Hermann Heiser hatband, floral tooled, but not sure if it is a acorn and leaves tooling??
On some other he use a stetson made hatband, simple leather strap with rolled string slopped through.
I have seen one simple band, not sure if it is a leather band....
try to finde some more informations about the floral toold Heiser band in some of the old cataloges I have ... hang on, will get back.

I just made my first sheath!
First here are the knifes ....the shorter one was by Dave Cole and matched a sheath he made that matches my modified Will Ghormley/Johnny Ringo rig. The knife is wonderful but it is to short to even cut a steak with .... so I bought this blade from Crazy Crow, had Big T make some scales for it, and made this leather sheath for reenactment ...

The Dave Cole Knife now goes into the sheath that I made on my Possibles Bag:

Marshall Will,
I think of you often ... every time I see that assembled wagon in my garage .... *S*
Yet another project on the back burner ...
But the Possibles Bag was a kit (called the Bridger Bag Kit at http://www.octobercountry.com/products/OC-Bridger-Bag-Kit.html ... and came precut with thread, needles and everything ... and cheaper than buying the bulk leather at Tandy!
I got them on the phone and ordered some extra leather and made a patch knife sheath on the aft side and a tool pocket for nipple prick and nipple wrenches ... I also took some Tandy Buckles, removed the tongues in a vise and used the square of the buckles to attach the shoulder strap to the back ... and by using different colors of leather and less-than-perfect stitching (Hey- it was my first kit!), I hoped to make a Bag that looks like it was repaired and strengthened with whatever leather was available, and stitched by the campfire and moonlight on those nights coming across the prairies ....
-
Nice work Wadd, I like the whoile combination of gear. Nice knives.
AC
-
AC,
Thanks ... but without your tool gifts that got me out of the 'I ought ta be doing some of this' to a 'well, I should try', I would still be contemplating my navel lint ... thanx!
-
Those Tandy buckles made good square rings, WW. Nice idea.
-
Thanks Marshall Will,
By using the Tandy Buckles, I was able to buy roller buckles so that the bottom of the straps (that connect to the Bag) are on rollers ... and tend to take any movement on the roller-to-buckle joint rather than catch a leather ....
But if I was gonna do it again, I would buy a bigger bag in a kit ....the bag makes a good place to put non historically correct things (like DateRunners and cell phones in).

A small pouch, inspired by the US Army pistol ammo pouch in Packing Iron p41, but with dot fastener instead of strap-and-finial closure.

Hey!
This was my first satisfactory gun-related project. My other work is archery leather. The whole reason I got started with leatherwork was because of the great work a of guy on a lever gun forum. It's funny- it's like I'm walking backwards into CAS. First, I'm getting my the leather together, then the gear and regalia...( luckily, my wife is absolutely willing to sew for me), the guns will be coming last...
Anyway, there are so many tons of great examples and fantastic support on these forums, I had to join.
-
Looks good Mat. Starting with the leather is a good idea. The build or delivery time usually holds pards up longer than anything. Welcome to the forum. Looking forward to your posts.
-
nice color and border tooling

~ Marshall Will - thanks! You guys and gals have done a great job of creating something special here!
~ Monsieur Logan - merci beaucoup! J'aime beaucoup votre site Web ! Très beau travail ! (Babelfish.com)

Just a little starter project. I did a fair amount of leather work in the 70s and am getting back into it to make my kit for cowboy shooting. Have my holsters and belts cut out and getting started on them as well as cuffs, badge holder and such. Anywho, here's my take on the lever wrap. Just a bit of leather in a reddish brown finish and some semi-fancy lacing. I soaked the leather in some Hoppe's #9 hoping to prevent any future rust under it.

I like that wrap and the horse hair dangle :)

I'm experimenting with making Holsters for my non Cowboy pistols. Here is one I made for my Bersa 380. I'll be making another with a slightly different design for my Smith & Wesson J-Frame Revolver.
Everytime I dye a black Holster or Belt I have to again thank Wolftracker for that wondeful jug of Vinegaroon he gave me.

Looking good Johnny

Nice, Johnny. There's nothing better than vinegaroon for black. 8)

Howdy Will & TW,
Many thanks for the kind words and the excellent Forum you Gents run.
Without the the Leather Shop Forum I probably would have never found out about Vinegaroon, Walnut dye and the many other things that help me in making Holsters and other Leather items. In fact it was the Leather Shop that gave me the idea to take a crack at Leather Working back in early 2006.
-
Johnny about time you show some thing you made. VERY NICE WORK. KT

Thanks KT

Yea where you been? All i have are revolvers, gonna have to get a semi one of these days. :-\

Here is a detachable Sling I made for a local Deer Hunter's Muzzle Loader.
The end cap was wet-molded and the entire Sling was finished with only Neet's Foot Oil.

-
Very nice, Dave. You have reason to be proud of your work. Looks mighty good.
-
I started leather work a long time ago, but haven't done it for a while. I have all of my fathers tools. He started leather as a way to wind down when he got back from the Pacific during WWII. He was in the Navy.
I had a home made knife my father had and always wanted to make a sheath for but unfortunately never did. So I decided to make one and use it for cowboy! I also made a bullet/shell belt pouch big enough to hold my empty .45's and 12g shells after each stage.
I made the plans for them myself and carved a simple floral design in it. Came out ok I think. ;D

Hello all!
So I decided to try my hand at building a set of holsters for my 1860 cap and balls. I've never made holsters before so I wanted a simple design but had to carve something. I made a floral design similar to the ones I carved in the knife sheath and bullet pouch I posted about a few up from this one. :D These are unlined with a right hand cross draw.

Nice holsters, Johnny. Those smoke wagons will be very happy in them. You're doing good work. Thanks for the pics.
-
Thanks much! now I need to make a belt for them. I'm trying to come with the style. ;D
-
A friend of mine recently built a Bowie out of a really big industrial file. Turns out scabbards for such aren't easily found. So he asked me to knock him one out. Good thing he really doesn't expect to carry the thing. The "flattened" teeth are still almost fully capable.
But that toothpick does look awesome.
-
That scabbard looks good with the knife. It's a nice rig. Thanks for sharing.
-
Nice job Red, looks just like they use to build them in the day…

Thanks
The layout is a copy of one shown in a picture from a museum. Saddle stitched and no decoration but with modern metal rivets. The plain leather sets you up for the surprise you get when you pull out the knife. The antler handle is from a deer he took. He's got a trophy trophy there with that blade and that handle.
-
Lots of beautiful leather on this thread.
Here's my first try at posting a photo on this board. Hope it works.
This is a gun belt and holster I made about 20 years ago. (pictured with my new vaquero) It is styled after a fast draw rig rather than the authentic western leather style of the 1880s.
-
Hey that's a nice rig Tuco! Certainly has a lot a character too.
-
Tuco Great looking rig. KT

Tuco I like it, it has character.

Tuco, well done pard, like CR said it has character... 8)

Thanks for the kind words guys.
Here are a couple more. A couple of winters ago my daughter (18 at the time) and I decided to each build one of the rigs in the movie The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. I built, as close as I could copy, Clint Eastwood's rig with the same flesh side out, stitch pattern, buckle and so forth. My daughter did Lee Van Cleef's rig with the same stitch pattern dimensions and extreme forward rake of the holster. I photographed them with similar revolvers as those used in the movie.
-
Those are some nice rigs, Tuco. Very impressive. Thanks for sharing with us. Looking forward to more of your work. Welcome to the forum.
-
You say this thread is for us to show "Small Leather Projects" ?????
OK. Small it is.
My friend has some knives that have gorgeous antler grips. They range from an awesome (size and beauty) Bowie to this patch knife. The blades range from the Bowie that came from a really big shop file to the patch knife with it's blacksmith hammered Damascus. They are so interesting themselves that we decided the scabbards should be plain and simple... which was good since trying to match their level of interest would be nigh unto impossible.
-
That looks good, LR. Simple is very suitable for this. Nice work.
-
Nice clean work Red, as Marshal Will said simple works well with period pieces. 8)

Here is a picture of a Cowboy Wallet I finally made for myself. I got the pattern from somebody on this site I think. After making three or four for some friends I finally did one for me.

Might have been me... though you did a better job :)

my friends axe had a bad cover on it. so i decided to make a proper axe sheath.
the axe is a Mohawk Belt Axe, 2-1/4" blade from track of the wolf.
the button on the sheath is deer antler. the string is kangeroo lace. another friend has some pipe beads to finish the lace. this will give it a mountain man look and keep it from pulling out of the sheath.
-
Nice axe sheath. Looks like it'll do the job perfectly. The antler button gives it a nice look. 8) It's much like one I made years ago for my own except I used a snap to keep it closed. I know better, now. ;D

Major 2 and Knucklehead, nice work pards…

Here are a few of my holsters...
The double loop for the Remmie is a borrowed from the Tandy Leather Cheyenne kit holster. I extended the length for the 8" bbl, and added a liner since it was too large for the thin revolver.
The black holster with the strap is borrowed from a civil war era pattern that I got from another site. I cut off the full flap since it made the draw cumbersome, and I added a 3/4" hold-down strap.
The black holsters with the bling are from Mr. Ghromley's Flames of Hell pattern. I ommitted the decorative stitching pattern, added some simple border tooling, nickel spots and a concho. They fit my NMV Rugers well. A matching belt is in the works.
The holsters on the complete rig are from Mr. Ghomley's El Dorado pattern. The belt is a take off from his Johnny Ringo pattern. This rig has suited my needs in matches. The other items have not yet been used in a match...but there is a match locally this weekend....
Stay safe mi amigos....Good Troy

here is a new holster for a '51 navy. This was my first time doing a suede liner.

Looks good, Josh. Thanks for sharing. Your '51 should be right at home in that.

This one is from Halloween. Daughter decided she wanted to go as a cowboy at the last minute, so I drew and made her this gunbelt and holster out of scrap in about 30 minutes after school before she went out. Kids around here, you can't buy guns, you can literally buy torture chambers, but guns, no. I hope to find a cap gun to fit, but that's a peacemaker mold so I may have to make a new holster when I get another 20 minutes.
She had a proper outfit with boots, hat, chaps, and a vest, though she made the last two out of brown paper, and it rained. So this picture was taken at some other time.

Good job and in a 30 minute window. Thanks for the pic.

Time wise it was a bit of an eye opener. The leather was about 6 ounce some thing from a scrap bag. I cut out from a standard pattern piece, but since it was so light, I bent it around the mold and did a trim with leather scissors. I also cut out a tab for the back to hang it, I think, or maybe there was a fold over piece. Once I had the shape, I marked several points and ran the decorative stitching more or less freehand on the machine, then sewed the belt loop, then sewed the side seam. The belt actually took longer because I had to mark, with a ruler and cut it out, then run the strap cutter. The piece was too short so I had to joint it neatly with a patch, and punch holes and slots.
The interesting part is this is about the effort that probably would have gone into s similar holster from the period, if it was just a utility pouch. Obviously the best work was pretty special. But it is instructive to just do a flat out piece and not laminate, or glue welts, or stain, or stamp, or make sure the holes were punched centered to the thou, etc...

Not bad for a quick fix, well done Massive.... ::)

How do you un-button it? I see no 'button hole'?

The button is fixed to the flap. In the photo, it's not fastened. To fasten it, wrap the thong around the button once or twice. To un-fasten, just unwrap it.
-
I really like that hatchet cover, it is both clean and dirty at the same time. Clean, straight weave, and rough, dirty, grain around the border. Did you use a background tool, or something else?
-
Here is something a little different. It is a stool we use when playing cowboy. This one is for my pal Three Cut.

I'm not a leather worker but I don't let lack of skill and talent keep me from trying. Here is a leather wrap I made to cover the ugly forend on an early Winchester 1887. It turned out homely but is functional.
