Right now I wish I could find the words to Red Stegall's Cowboy Church, could play it for ya if you ever stop by the store.

It's on his Faith and Values CD, perhaps his best.

Well dummy you have the liner note's, type it out. ::)

Wait I'll try again, maybe I can find it this time, yep, it's there. ;D

Lord I'm just a cowboy
And you know cowboy ways
You probably look at guys like me
The way I  look at strays
You know the kind that wonder off
Away from all the herd
I was truely lost myself
Until I found the word

My church is the great out of doors
My song is natures sound
The sky is my cathedral
My alter is the ground
You must be fond of mavericks
Cause you made them wild and and free
I know you've got a  place up there
For old cowboys like me

Don't think that I don't love you
Because I'm not herd bound
Its just that I'm uncomfortable
With other folks around
I know your all around me
I see you every day
Its just that I don't go to church
Where other people pray

My church is the great out of doors
My song is natures sound
The sky is my cathedral
My alter is the ground
You must be fond of mavericks
Cause you made them wild and and free
I know you've got a place up there
For old cowboys like  me

Nuther one from the same CD:

I was out on night guard when the storm came rollin in
The lead steer got up to his feet and raced into the wind
The air was filled with lightning and it  jumped from horn to horn
My night horse took the challenge and we rode into the storm

I tried to turn the leaders but they scattered like the wind
I held onto a hundred head and turned them back again
I rode with no direction as I pushed them thru the night
Then way off in the distance was a tiny point of light

Yes the lantern on the wagon led me safely thru the storm
A beacon shining brightly when your lost and all alone
As I wondered thru the darkness what a warm and welcome sight
The lantern on the wagon led me safely thru the night

Your life has no direction when you think you've lost your way
I had a friend who helped me, all I had to do was pray
He's the one whos love is constant you don't have to ride alone
All you need to do is ask him and he'll lead you safely home

Like the lantern on the wagon he will lead thru the storm
A beacon shining brightly when your lost and all  alone
As you wonder thru the darkness he's a warm and friendly sight
His light of love will lead you safely thru the darkest night
Yes his light of love will lead you safely thru the darkest night.

Dutchy, congratulations! We were presented our first Grandchild 7/31.
There isn't a day that goes by what my wife and I point out to each other that we have been blessed in so many little ways, and by saying so acknowledge both the Giver and the Gift.

You take care of yourself, now you hear?!  I want to meet up with you and your Grandson someday at a shoot, and I'll introduce you to my Granddaughter, and we'll just smile and wink at each other. ;)

Grand kids are a special treat, they come along when your own kids have you about ready ta spit nails.  Then you see new life and watch em grow.  And you get the bonus of given em back over to it's parents when you're done.  Them little ones are definately a blessing.  I had spegetti with Spud taday fer lunch an watched him throw it to the dogs from his high chair.  I was so tickled seein Angel walkin around with them noodles on her head I couldn't do nothin but laugh.  It's a whole differnt ball game when they is grankids an not your kids.

PS
I did clean both of them up afterwards.

Hello,

I have this prayer printed and on the back of my mirror door in my medicine cabinet. That way when I reach for vitamins every morning , it kind of starts the day with the right perspective. Don't know & don't care if St. Theresa actually wrote it .... it just speaks to me ...

St Theresa’s Prayer

May today there be peace within.

May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.

May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.

May you be content knowing you are a child of God.

Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of you.
My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...

Good day Folks
We have just survived a lashing by Hurricane Bill. Have to say thanks to Him for no serious events . But boy what a display of nature!

Looking back over the posts here I must say they have given me pause to think. That although I have not considered myself a 'Go to church' Christian: there  have been times when I have sat back and took a deep breath at the peace and beauty of the time and place . Thinking now those may have been my prayer moments.
Take care

Dutchy, glad yer fine, as a thought there is a line in a Don Williams song that says:

I do't believe that heaven waits
For only those who congregate.

When I made my trips for prisoner pickups, I spent a lot of time by myself. That is my quiet time. Driving is my way of relaxing and being at peace. Just me and my thoughts. I will have some time together in a month or so when I drive to Nebraska for the Muster. My best wishes for the week for everyone. Prayers up for every one.

I think yer friend noticed some very obvious stuff that is written.  Funny how so many folks thoughout history haven't.  Each an every person is HIS temple.

What's even more interesting he was the head of the Theology Dept at Union College here in Lincoln, a Seventh Day Adventist school.  Very neat man, had a lot of good stories from when he served as an army chaplain in Saigon during the war over there.  His story about buying the AK-47 to be able to shoot one was a hoot.

Took a Marine friend out in the country with him to show him the ropes, said they were having a heck of a lot of fun till the drew some mortar fire.  They tossed the AK in a water filled ditch and headed for home. ;D
