Where do I find?
« on: July 24, 2019, 11:49:58 AM »
Ok, thanks all for the help on finding the right size balls I need for my Uberti 1849 Pocket Pistol. Now where can I find them. According to every ones help, I need .320" to .323" balls. It seems Hornady (which is the only brand most companies sell) only makes .310" or .315". Lee's only mold is for .319". Any help is appreciated.

Try patching the Hornady round balls to fit your chambers.  I'd use paper patches for this.

Wow Dick, great idea! Normally I "poo-poo" people who try to use a cloth patch in a C&B revovler... but paper patching
actually makes sense!

Charlie - you could also go one step further, and make full wrap-around paper cartridges, greasing the outside of the ball part.

There is no sense, as far as I'm concerned, shooting a ball that isn't large enough to go to the bottom of the grooves.  I doubt a .323" ball will do that.  My Uberti 1849 Wells Fargo has chambers that are .327"!!!  How could you expect a .323" ball to work in that?  I use .330" balls.  Bough 'em in a five pound plastic bottle at a gun show.  I'll provide the label info, if you're interested.

Gabriel Law, the chambers on my Uberti 1849 Pocket Pistol measure. 318".  I checked out 0 buckshot.  According to charts, it's suppose to be .320". Which should be fine. But how consistent is buck shot in size? I'm going to try .320" and some .323" balls from Track of the Wolf. Thank you everyone who helped me out with this quest.

Hi Charlie!
I have a Uberti 1849 & find the Lee "319" mold makes an adequate RB for this revolver. I measured a few at different  diameter locations. Looks like they are not a perfect sphere (surprise) ...diameter measures between .319 to .322

I also use in a pocket Remington, which has slightly larger chambers & while not ideal, they don't move under recoil & it has been fairly accurate at 5 yds (after making a tall sight it even shoots POA) .

Seems very slow casting them little nuggets..have to say it's a least favorite item to cast, but I don't use a lot of them.
