Homemade 1911 grips

I was looking for project, I decided to make a set of Grips for one of my 1911's.
 Having made a few grips for myself in the past that turned out harmoniously, I gave it a shot. 

I made a set, in black walnut, from a small, off cut scrap from a slab from a client's river table.
 These were made for this little pocket pistol.
I sadly sold the pistol and this the best photo I have.


I made a set for 1858 Remington from American Holly (Woodcrafters Supply) but I don't seem to have the photo's 

Anyway, here is the Cocobolo 1911 attempt, here they are final shaped and completely sanded, finish will be bee's wax (Skidmore's hand rubbed several coats)

This is some kinda dense wood, hard like a rock and sands beautifully.

Those Cocobolo grips are just plain GORGEOUS!!  I would like to share though, When sanding/finishing Cocobolo, wear a mask.  Cocobolo is VERY toxic when ingested.  Toxic enough to be fatal!!

Thank you, here they are installed & the before and after journey.
  The gun is Cimarron gloss blued Rock Island, Armscor Armory piece I purchased about 10 years ago.
At the time, the Bluing was being done at Ford's in Crystal River Fl. it has held up well.
  The original grips were somewhat lighter in color I believe Philippine Mahogany.
I was not all that enamored with that yellowish hue, so I opted to stain them darker...
 Often considered Faux Ivory for the look but opted out when I shot another (friends) pistol the grips seems slippery and way to whiteish.
