CZ Buys Colt
« on: February 14, 2021, 12:33:35 PM »
Rumour around the corral is that Colt has been purchased by CZ for $220 million.

The value of your pre-CZ SAAs, 1911s and Pythons just went up considerably, and hopefully qc as well.

I posted a link on the Colt Forum the other day,  looks like more than rumor at this point.  Kind of sad,  but CZ is known for quality,  time will tell if they care about the tradition of Colt.

QC went up when Miroku started making "Winchesters". I expect the same will happen with CZ and Colt.

If the US can't do it right, then others will.

It will be interesting to see what CZ does with Colt.
I fully expect QC to be MUCH better than from the old Colt plant.

CZ did a great job reproducing the Dan Wesson revolver, with interchangable barrels, and the barrel sets.

Unfortunately, the price was beyond what most folks would pay -
~$1600 for a 6" barrel version with a cerakote frame
~ $2100 for the pistol pack all stainless.
these were street prices
the complete pistol pack included a 4", 6" and 8" ( but no 2.5" barrel, for some reason)

Oddly the pistol pack MSRP was only $1825, and was a bargain compared to what the auctions
of the used ones were hitting.

But apparently, unless you were a died in the wool DW fanatic, that was too much.
there are far too many other affordable revolvers out there.

Much like choosing betwixt a USFA and a new, CAD built Pietta.
When the average guy with a wife, family and bills,
can buy a Pietta and still have enough left over to replace the entire Home Furnace Boiler system....
the choice becomes clear.

As many are finding out in the Midwest during this Arctitc Cold Snap, a good furnace suddenly
has greater importance....

IF CZ makes the product right choices, does it all with CAD, they may have a sellable niche.
LOTS of people would jump on a new Python even at $2000
Probably the old Diamondback
Maybe even the old Agent

I tend to agree with what the good Prof. to a point.

I do expect a quality product.... sadly I do not think it will include a SAA.....

That market is select and well covered with better price points by Pietta & Beretta (Uberti)
Ruger has a piece of the market.

I think CZ is interested in the US as manufacture point. I seriously doubt Hartford (un-gun friendly) Connecticut and
The Union is in CZ's long term plans.

I see CZ relocating to the  South, Alabama maybe Texas or Florida , I believe the 1911 will continue, even expand enhanced offerings. The Python & Cobra will continue as well, and some current CZ models might be assembled here.

I think the Colt made SAA is sadly not in CZ's sights.  :(

Hi
I am at a loss as to why CZ would buy Colt.  Colt makes the SAA, the 1911, the M-16 / AR-15, the snake series, and ....   Someone else does a better, or at least as good a job of making that whole list except the snake series.  A friend likes the Python etc and I've shot them, but don't see the allure.  I have ugly old S&W that shoot fine for a lot less.

Maybe they DO only want the manufacturing facilities.

Best thing is  Connecticut with its gun control anti's  and its "Closed" Shop State laws , will lose a cash cow.

I am guessing one of the main reasons that CZ is purchasing Colt is the name.  Hoping they build a nice SAA.  CZ quality-higher than the Italian clones-but with a price lower than Standard or USFA stuff.

I just read part of an interview with the head of CZ. He was very positive about continuing the Colt DA revolver line, the 1911s and the AR-15. No mention was made of the Single Action Army.

Here's the link I was sent:  https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2021/02/17/wheelgun-wednesday-cz-revolvers/

I’m pretty sure CZ can do Colt better than Colt. At least the past three decades.
I’ve been to a bunch of different gun stores in the past five decades and can’t remember the last time I saw a Colt product. Admittedly, I live in a rural area, but I see everyone else’s products but Colt. At least CZ is gun people and not accountants.
