Model 1860 Factory Shipping Crate Project
« on: July 14, 2020, 09:56:04 AM »
Hello, all!  New member here and just wanted to show a finished project.  I just finished mounting a scope on my Model 1860 and thought it would be cool to create a wood shipping crate of the era.  Something to put the rifle in as a special order from the factory to someone possibly in the War.  Just had to imagine what that could've looked like without any photos.  I had an old box which I repurposed by stripping off old green paint and re-doing.   It will also have a real Adams Company shipping receipt that would be affixed on the back showing an 1862 delivery to an individual (haven't decided where yet).  I've done some touching up on out since the photos but wanted to share the general finished project with everyone.

Here's the rifle:

And here's the crate:

Thank you for the replies.  I think it turned out decent.  The stencils were a bit difficult as I had to really think what the wording and written style would've been.  Especially on the two end sides.

 :)  rayman1   ;)

Absolutely OUTSTANDING!!!  I am a particularly afflicted Henry Rifle nut.  Yours is particularly well turned out with the Malcom Scope.  Gotta love it.

Anybody remember "Munisha" from Wild Wild West  ::)  and her scoped Henry!!!  Gorgeous (The Rifle too).

Your "Box" is also a "Piece De La Resistance"  Exceptionally well done.  Kudo's you betcha.  I only found one fault with it.  It's not MINE   ;D

Coffinmaker, the scope is actually a Tasco 32" reproduction scope that Dixie Gun Works, Cabelas, and Navy Arms used to sell many years ago.

I came into several of the Tasco scopes in varying conditions and decided I'd use one of the better ones I had for the project.  I couldn't buy a new reproduction Malcolm style scope.  In time, I think I might buff out the "Tasco" off the end scope cover cap.

In the future, I'd like to draw up plans for the making of crates and boxes should someone want to make one.
