OM Vaquero . . . Collector value
« on: January 16, 2012, 08:01:00 PM »
Me and a few of my buddies were shooting the bull.  Subject of Ruger Vaqueros came up. One of the guys insists that the OMV will be a big collectors item one day.   The 5 of us spent a good hour and a few 6 packs chewin' that one over.

Any thoughts on that?

Pancho P:

Some are a little bit collectible right now.
I wish still I had a consecutive pair of .38-40/.40 S&W convertibles.
I ordered them for a Pard who was into .40 S&W automatics.  He probably never fired the other cylinder.
They bring a higher price when found.  I recollect they were a Davidson's Exclusive.

IMHO,

I have a pair of the 3 1/2" Birdshead in .45 Colt that I've been holding, but the only Vaqueros people want to spend money on are "New Models". They might move if the economy improves. My two best friends run a big gun store and a musical instrument store, respectively, and both say they are having a very hard time selling anything, cowboy guns or guitars, that cost much over $500. Right here and now both qualify as luxury items, and most folks can't afford such luxuries.  :(

BH:  If you are interested in selling them, I might be an interested buyer.  Send me a PM with details about them.

The OMV short barrel birds head models are starting to gain some collector value, particularly the stainless models in caliber 45 Colt.  I predict that, in time, all the old model Vaqueros will go up in value.   8)

In our outfit, we love the older Vaqueros.
We have all older full-size .44 Mag Vaqueros (except my daughter SASSy Shawna who has two NM Vaqueros in .44 Spec).  But since we shoot only .44 Spec ammo, it works fine.

Collect 'em ??? ???

Just shoot the thangs~!

They may be collectible someday, but as they hardly ever break, the ordinary models will survive in great numbers.

Shoot 'em?  Hell yeah!  I got 4 of the big old Vaqueros.  They're all 45s and they all get shot on a regular basis.  I bought 'em to shoot 'em and that's what I do.    8)
