Our previous SHOW US YER STUFF thread #4 has gotten fairly full. This is now our thread to share all the cowboy leather you make. That includes holsters, saddles, saddlebags, chaps, spur straps and other leather cowboy items. OK pards, let's see what you can do!
Here are links to the older threads:

I am new to the game so I don't have many but I will start it off.

Thanks for the photos, Rube. It's always good to see what forum members make. There are some nice pieces there. I particularly like that BW one.

Thanks for the nice words as always. You have any of your handy work to show?

Sure. Here are a few of the holsters I've made. I've showed these before but I'll put some in here just for a reference.

Beautiful work

Thank you, Rube. When I worked in the saddle shop I never got to make a holster. I guess I'm making up for that now. LOL

For sure. They are all beautiful but I am really liking the one with the flower boarder where the gun is facing the left.

Here's my main rig. I'm pretty proud of this one.

And here's my other rig. I did not make the holsters and belt, but I did make all the pouches and sheaths. My wife says that if Batman had lived in the 19th century, he'd have worn this belt. LOL!

Thanks for the photos, Dave. Those are a couple really nice rigs. I also like the black one. Are those 1851 Snubbies you have in there? They look right at home.

Thanks. I made that one to test out the R & L pedal stamp set I had just gotten from Hackbarth (https://www.hackbarthtools.us/#Ovgfub).

Good looking stuff Smokey Dave

I see everyones' pretty stuff and I feel so inadequate!
It's about the journey, though, right?

The pistols are actually a 72 Open Top and a converted 1860 Army. They're my main match pistols.
Good looking stuff Smokey Dave
Thanks Rube

Absolutely right Snake Oil! The journey of 1000 miles, begins with the first step. Gotta start somewhere.
-
OK, pards. We now have the link for our SHOW US YER STUFF #4 thread in the first post in this one.

Here’s my first crack at a cowboy holster
-
Good job, Mickey. Your stitching is nice and even. The swivel knife cuts are smooth and consistent. And with the rivets, it won't come apart any time soon. Nice.

I see everyones' pretty stuff and I feel so inadequate!

Here are my Scarlet Mask Vigilance Society (NCOWS) options at the moment...
My rig was handmade by a fellow NCOWS member, uberti 1873s, a sort of good side, bad side... light side for the fancy outstanding public citizen, dark side for the notorious snake oil salesman.
-
My daughter, Wylde Wynter (Wild Winter) has a few more options...
-
That looks like a fine rig, SO. The closest NCOWS posse to me is 1800 miles away. I like the organization, though.
-
Added some cartridge loops to the gun belt I’ve made, then made another belt to hold shotgun shells and other things.
-
Those loops are nice and even. They'll certainly do you well. Good job on those belts.
-
Nicely done. Great looking rigs.
-
Made a stock sleeve for my new coach gun, and a holster for an as yet purchased SAA (or similar).
-
Looks good, ML. It's nice to have a good looking rig for your irons. Thanks for the photos.
-
Nice work Mickey, thanks for sharing.. ::) ::)

Got new pistols which naturally calls for new gunleather. Made the holsters out of what I had on hand. So they’re 13/15 oz.
Long story but I was able to pickup a pair of Vaqueros in 44Mag.
-
I donated a custom Wild Bunch rig for our clubs annual SASS Scholarship charity auction. Here it is.
-
Damn fine work Gunleather.
-
Good work guys.
-
Very nice stuff, GL. thanks for sharing.

Howdy.
Haven't been posting for quite some time now. But here's a rig I made out of Will Ghormleys pattern "Dodge City"
-
Looks mighty good. I like the Dodge City holsters. For style points, they're tops. Yours looks great. Nice work, pard.

Looks good. I have 5 of his different pattern packs ordered and this is one of them. Looking forward to trying them out.

That's a fine looking rig right there.

Nice work pards!
A lot of very skilled individuals on this forum.

This forum inspired me to try leather working.. A lot of very skilled craftsmen here.. this is the latest holster I made.. It is a Jesse James style holster for a Cimmaron S&W no3 first model American I recently acquired... I just have to decide what color I want to finish it with.
-
That looks great. That No 3 should be right at home in it. Glad to see you going with leather working. Welcome to the forum. Looking forward to seeing more of you.
-
Nice job Original Bad Bob
-
I've been working on a new cross draw pattern, here is one in .22 SAA.
It is 8-10oz veg, and I used some Fiebings Antique Sheridan paste, to bring out the carving. I'm not sure I used it quite right, it may not have been dry enough when I applied the Resolene. It still turned out alright.
-
It looks like that will do the job nicely, Capt. The angle is a little more than most I've seen, which may work quite well.
-
Pouch for loose round balls that I finally got around to making for my 1858 rig.
-
That's a good looking pouch. Nice work, pard.

Well, you've been busy, Johnny! Those are clean designs. Clean is good. Those work well. Thanks for sharing.
-
Nice. You sure have been busy which is a good thing.
-
Hey Tommy, you do good clean work.
I do have a seriously LOVE / HATE relationship with the flower "embroidered" with the turquoise dots. I can't freehand that flower for crap, tried a few times, but have been overcome by events. It you're iguana use turquoise dots, you need some turquoise thread for the flower though.
Later
-
I was originally going to use red thread and silver spots. Then I changed my mind at the last minute with the turquoise spots. I had my wife draw the flower. I sometimes stamp but have found I don't have a lot of patience for it. One of these days, I plan on trying to do more carving, but for now I just make plain jane stuff.
Not the greatest pictures but those are two of my carving attempts over the years.
-
Thanks for the pics, Tommy. They're both good but that incised slimjim looks outstanding. You did a great job on it. Nice work, there.
-
My latest.
-
Nice, Rube. The Dodge City style holster is one of my favorites. With those rivets, they just have a particularly durable look. Good job.

This is the first ones I have done in this pattern and they do seem to be so very durable. I am impressed with the design.

Set of Schofield Holsters I just finished up.
-
Nice work, Rube! Those look good. That's a great color, too.
-
Been a bit since I last posted. Thought I'd share something a bit special I did.
-
I like that , there just something special in a 1911 in western leather.
I'd like to know more about the 1911 too !
-
Now that is just plain classy. Looks great.
-
That really looks outstanding, Kid. Beautiful work. I like the nice even stamping pattern. The color compliments it nicely, too.
-
That really looks outstanding, Kid. Beautiful work. I like the nice even stamping pattern. The color compliments it nicely, too.
Agreed. The color is great.
OP, What color brown did you use on that one?
-
The color was achieved through a process instead of a bottle.
Start with Chestnut colored veg tan leather (Wicket & Craig)
After wet molding and the grain is just slightly damp, burnish with sheep's wool to a gloss.
Oil with a neutral oil (neatsfoot)
Use Fiebings Antique Stain gel finish (medium brown) liberally. Make sure you get the stain in the stamp impressions.
With a wet (wetter than damp) paper towel, wipe all the excess stain off of the piece until the towel doesn't remove any more stain.
(might take a couple paper towels)
I then use Resolene as a top finish but use whatever floats your boat at this point.
Make sure to give a little time between the applications of liquids.
The gel antique stain really highlights any stamping patterns you use. (it will also reveal any sloppy stamping....lol)
Hope this explains my process.
-
Thanks for outlining what you did. That is a very nice finish.
-
Excellent. I always enjoy seeing/reading how other's do their process.

The latest rig

Well, there ya go! Looks good, pard. Nice work. I like those Dodge City holsters. I make single layer belts for my own use because, at least for me, they're more comfortable.

51 Navy Conversion with it's holster and new giraffe bone grips.

Very nice, Rube. Nice contrasting colors. I like those grips, too.

Rube, that is just flat out purty!

Thanks y’all.

Personal one for myself and my 72 Open Tops. Very comfortable but will make a thicker belt soon.

Lots of good looking rigs. I’m just starting into this, have my guns, and now its time to try to find leather. I don’t have any holster makers in my area (Middle Tennessee) that have anything to look at, and the online leather makers do a terrible job of showing any detail, quality, or specifics.

Welcome. You can find many great leather makers here. My first holsters I ever bought for cowboy guns were from an old user here many years ago. I still have and cherish those rigs also.

Welcome to the forum, DMK. Looking forward to seeing your posts.

Another Half Flap but this time someone wanted it fully lined.
-
That looks good with the lining stitch line to give it a border of sorts. Good job.
-
That looks good with the lining stitch line to give it a border of sorts. Good job.
Thanks. This one acted as sort of a prototype. I had never done one of these lined before and made some alterations to my original pattern because they want it for a 1860 and my previous patterns are for a 7.5" Schofield and then altered to fit a 7.5" Colt. This is yet another alternation of my original pattern. His holster will be black. I made this one to match a previous belt and holster rig of my own that has been antiqued some.
-
Another set of fully lined half flap holsters. I have enjoyed making these half flap holsters lately. People seem to like them pretty well also. This double cross draw pair.
-
Looking good, Rube. Those cross draw half flap holsters are a cool design.
When you said "double cross draw" my first thought was of my cousin, Outlaw Jim (no longer with us), who wore two right handed cross draw holsters for CAS. One on either side of the belt buckle, just far enough apart to meet SASS requirements. He stood left side to the firing line ,like you would a weaver stance, and just yanked them out and went to town. No 'cross draw twist' needed to keep muzzles downrange so no chance of a procedural while on the clock.

Hey, that sounds like a good idea to start the shooting. This particular person wanted to wear one on each side. The drawing process on these are def not a one handed process. Esp with the lined holsters because the flap is fairly stiff.
-
Here is my latest project. 7-1/2” holsters, 5-1/2” holsters, cowboy cuffs, belt, badge holder, shotgun slide, and pocket watch holster

That's a good looking rig. It looks like you have just about everything covered nicely. Good job on it.

Good looking rig for sure.

Holster I made for Pietta's Brotherhood Of The Traveling 1858 Revolver.

Very nice work, Rube. That's a fine holster for that pistol. It's particularly nice since it will accompany the pistol in its travels.

Thanks Will. I am happy to send it on its way. At this time I do not know Pietta's end goal or how long it will travel but when I talk to them next I plan to ask. Hope it travels a long time.

Awesome! My favorite style of Holster done with excellent workmanship. Many thanks for sharing your work with us.

Thank you Johnny.

I recently picked up a Ruger Blackhawk 45 Colt with 4 5/8" barrel. I decided I wanted to make myself a cross draw holster to wear around the ranch. I went with cross draw that way it would be comfortable on tractor, side by side, truck or on foot. I find a cross draw holster to be one of my personal favorites.
I wanted it simle and choose to leave it natural. I miscalculated a little on the size of the blackhawk and had to end up going with a rather thick welt which actually sures up the holster nicely.
I also wanted to try out my new edge beader on a real project. All in all its functional but not to the level I have come to like and I quarreled with myself on if I was even going to post photos. But, here it is.
-
That's a good holster. clean and uncluttered. That edge bead gives it a finished look. Pretty soon you'll be using it on everything.
-

Thanks man. I had ran the edge bead on a few scraps but it was a little different trying to finish the edge. Some spots were kind of getting smashed down but overall I think it turned out okay and I will definitely be using the edger more and more. I like the look it gives.
-
When I use an edge beader, I go over it a couple times if needed. There's an angle you hold it where the downward pressure helps hold it against the edge.
-
Made up a holster for someone who saw one of my other holsters. This one is for a 5.5" Schofield.
-
That looks good, Rube. It also looks like it would fit any other barrel length, too. That's a fine design.
-
Very nice! That's one of my favorite stamps. You did a great job of getting it evenly spaced and applied.
-

Thanks. It could fit other barrel length also. With the 7+ though the barrel sticks out.

Finished this one up last week.

If you have a drill press or arbor press, that is a good way to do them without the bounce. There is also a press that is good for just leather working (https://www.ebay.com/itm/394945208716?hash=item5bf491a18c:g:uHoAAOSwZNRgjkFn&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA4Cn1jVhY37a1Y5znXm03OTRb8b%2Fd9C7GNCGyP%2Fj%2F2PTthIDxcBis6mWwqfch89xGxrLczMz8CBeyVKmJp3gMYBogGn2Ak0cuzn9mDkbwQloNfPU1963PemvnOdacLJ7zk2xVJs7HxaPXRVUiZZBqvJt%2Fl1%2Fn%2Bh3O3hut2b3GI6n3aTcFO9uspGyB9NYqJt2efM2JwP6LtFOTwa6oWErMr8PlIFnKXAjd3e1j%2FtacD7QuvVN2CV05FqqlNaUrpwJehZrTXfBeUEK9ntJwInREHtyBCPfs9R3BGzOf8c75AW8h%7Ctkp%3ABFBM9o--3uti), too. The prices are anywhere from $80 - 150. Although I've been using my drill press, I suppose I'll pick one up myself eventually.

I actually have one of the Weaver 8 ton presses. I just havent wanted to cut down my stamp to fit under the press. I can usually do it without the bounce but at every once in a while it will do it.

8 tons will certainly do the trick. Can you adjust the spacing so you don't have to cut down your stamps?

Not on this stamp. Its too long/tall. I really just need to have another made or just cut this one down.

I looked at the HF bench top drill presses. The 10 inch one for $169 is a good deal and might be a good way to go. The $99 8 inch one doesn't have a crank for table height adjustment. My drill press is like that and it's a damn PITA to adjust the height. In my opinion, the extra cost is worth it for that alone.

I guess those would be a good option for sure. We have a Harbor Freight in town.

Made this from some scrap leather I had so I went with a distressed look.

Cool design. I love the way you placed the Colt logo on the strap. Perfect holster for a genuine Colt.

Another outstanding one. Looks as good as the others. Really well done.

I love authentic holsters and belts as evidenced by my very worn copy of Packing Iron by Richard C. Rattenbury but as a first love growing up in the 60's I have to give it to the movies and TV. I tried to be as screen faithful as possible but not having a look in person, this is as close as I could get. I've read that Andy Anderson built the first examples but I have no way of authenticating this.
