Thank you Major S.

Coffee and sweet tea are up.

Pretty good amount of rain yesterday evening.

I suppose the TS on the East Coast May hamper the return schedule of the SpaceX on Sunday.

7:45 a.m.: Advisory

Hurricane Isaias’ potential path shifted west again Friday evening, upping the chances of a landfall along the southeast coast of Florida — possibly as a tropical storm — on Sunday.
The projection showed Isaias potentially scraping the beaches of Palm Beach County around 2 a.m. Sunday . Another shift west or even a wobble as it approaches could expose communities to the stronger winds around Isaias’ core.

Palm Beach is 75 miles  south and about 55 east of my place.... We may squeak by and just see rain bands and wind gusts.

It not at all unusual , for a Summer Thunder storm , to soak with 3 + inches and 60 MPH wind gusts .... so with luck   :-X

The Space X return is in the Gulf of Mexico ..... way west of the storm track   :-\

Morning y'all.
Thanks for the coffee.

A Remington 10A shotgun followed me home from the "toy store". Made in the late 20's. It had a plug in the mag tube. Took it out and did a good cleaning since there was rust in the mag tube.

'Tis 71 and sunny. High of 82.

Afternoon all.

I’ve come down with some flavor of the kruds today, so i passed on the horse work this morning. Feeling a little better this afternoon, but not much.

I seem to have been bitten by the lever gun bug again, and am considering trading my Model 70 in 280 for a M94 Big Bore in 375 Winchester for a Montana mountain hunting gun. A Lyman receiver sight, some 235 grain Speer Hot Core bullets, and a bull elk bugling sounds like a nice time to me. . I do like my lever guns :D

Isaias weakened to a tropical storm on Saturday afternoon with winds dropping to 70 mph and looked ragged on satellite as the storm emerged over the Florida Straits.

Isaias is expected to encounter wind shear throughout Saturday. If wind shear amounts increase, the storm could have lower wind speeds as it passes Florida, forecasters say.  :)

I'll chime in,  in the AM .... but optimistic tonight  :-X

Good Slim was just curious.

TK I think all of us here do like Lever Guns, of some type.

Glad the Tropical storm is weakening, from what I have read here.

Rain starting to move thru now just a light shower.

Yesterday ? I expected it would be breezy and raining this morning...
not the case , it is clear and still ..this will chance some as the day wears on.

At 5 a.m. ET, the storm was centered about 45 miles east-southeast of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, moving northwest at 9 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph.

Expected rainfall from Isaias, from Friday night through Tuesday in South and east central Florida, could be 2 to 4 inches, with isolated totals of 6 inches, the Hurricane Center said.

Satellite photo has most of the rain & wind off to the east out at sea  :)

Breaking news just released say's  , It will likely NOT regain hurricane strength

My area has been up graded from Hurricane warning  to TS watch...

I last saw him on TV on one or more episodes of "Late Night with Craig Ferguson" (Craig is defintiely an acquired taste)
He had a  very dry wit and was quite "low key" ... sometimes it took a half a sec for his comment to sink in.
He broiught his band and also played the Harmonica quite well.

he will be missed.

prof sad.

Thanks all for the good vibes ...
Officials said on Sunday that "Isais would not have a severe impact on Florida, with the threat of storm surges there waning."

We've had light steady breeze all day, and some rain has passed north of me ..none here as of 4:30 PM Sunday.
I'd expect some overnight though. Storm is about due east on here
Should be near Daytona, St Augustine in the early AM , winds are down to 65 mph .

Edit:   first light rain falling now  4:45

The passing of this storm will cause complacency, in foolish people  ::)

The effect here were a light breeze and mild shower yesterday afternoon , I had nothing overnight here at the house.
We have a light breeze and light gray cloudiness, a few leaves in the pool ( about the same after a summer cloud burst )
to mark the passing TS.  It may regain Cat. 1 Hurricane strength before it hits SC or NC

I've lived thought "STORMS" I  believe the warnings , even when they are slight like this one was/is

Friend & next ranch over neighbor Tom Bass has passed, always had a wave & broad smile if we passed going to town.
Years ago we would ride together on our horses, we'd talk about old Cracker days & history.
He was the real deal rodeo cowboy & later announcer and I often went as his guest . He was class act, with great humor & story telling.

Happy Trails Tom, I'll miss our meets ...

Thomas David Bass, Sr. (Tom), 74 of St. Cloud passed away August 1, 2020 in Jackson Hole, WY. A member of a Pioneer Osceola County family, Tom was born in Kissimmee, the son of William Bass and Georgette Parsons. Tom was a graduate of Sul Ross University in Alpine, TX. Tom was a retired rodeo announcer and loved the sport of rodeo. Tom was a Gold Card member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA). Tom was a member of Narcoossee Baptist Church.

The dog will beg you for your something  , but if its his food dish , best not even get near by... defiantly a double standard in his mind !
course , he is still a puppy by definition ( 9 mos.)  and in training  and it has greatly improved his food aggression.
He graduated Adult training last week and will get advanced social  K9 training in  Sept. & Oct.

Another Pandemic  :o

The  NILE Virus - C strain type

I thought you would want to know about this virus.

It appears to target those who were born prior to 1948.

The present lockdown seems to be increasing the chances of being affected!

Virus Symptoms
1. Causes you to send the same e-mail twice. (Done that)

2. Causes you to send a blank e-mail. (That too)

3. Causes you to send an e-mail to the wrong person. (Yup)

4. Causes you to send it back to the person who sent it to you. (Ah-ha)

5. Causes you to forget to attach the attachment. (Done that)

6. Causes you to hit SEND before you've finished. (Oh no, not again)

7. Causes you to hit DELETE instead of SEND. (Hate that)

This virus is called the C-NILE virus!

A lot of us have already been inflicted with this disease and unfortunately as we age it gets worse.

And if you won't admit to doing any of the above, you've obviously caught the other strain - the D-NILE virus!

According to the news, the 2020 Sturgis Rally is still in progress. I made it to Sturgis 22 years in a row and wish I was there right now.

The 2010 Sturgis Rally was one of my favorites. It included a visit to the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody, Wyoming and the Little Bighorn Battlefield along with going through Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park.

Below is a two part video of my 2010 Sturgis trip.

I have a couple friends who went: one is a deputy sheriff in my hometown who took his early 60s HD that he restored this year. Last year was his BMW GS. I might try next year, if I can get my hands on a decent set of wheels before then.

Today has been a packing day. We’re pretty much ready for the move tomorrow. First night will be in Salem OR, second in Cour d’Alene, ID.  Then the last will be in Missoula.

I still have to decide if I want to bring the old 30-30, or my 280 bolt gun.

Well I'm up early, put on my sweatpants grabbed the haversack (man purse) got in the Yuppie Mobile and took the kid to school and dealt with the real Yuppies. ::)   They doing a split, one week she'll go Thursday and Friday and the other Wednesday also.   Nobody in my day would have dressed and done makeup and hair like that but whatever.    Riley is very upset, maybe I'll get to see him more, the only time I see him  is when she ain't in her room. ;D   She put the extra dishes in there, not sure he has even ate out of the others set recently.   Been 2-3 days since I let him out even, oh well, he gives her someone besides a couple old people to hang out with, like those therapy dogs.

Going to go to Cosco in a bit, then back and do some kitchen stuff, pick her up at 2 and maybe a nap before supper,  went to the grocery store yesterday and carried everything in before my helper realized I was home, she can help grandma I can do it myself, just like the dishes, told her if I need her to dom them I'll ask, otherwise it's my job.   Got the BP working for me now, have not bottomed out in 3-4 days, when it's drops into the 90's over the 50's I don't have much energy. ::)

Morning Coffee is up....... we have had a cooler day and night... but humidity is way up now.
I may have some pancakes later this morning.

TK south of Missoula on 93 is town called Stevensville. There is two 2 ammunition manufactures and a custom rifle builder.  During the last dry up of ammo they seemed to always have ammo there and area gunshots.  There was also a custom ammo shop in Hamilton. It has been 6 years since I have been there so they may not be in Hamilton. Point is you will find ammo there. I still have .22 and .40 cal from the other two.

HSM is in Stevensville, I think. I’ve burned a lot of their remanufactured ammo in 9mm and 223.  I have some ammo squirreled away, but I could always use more.

About to have breakfast and then hit the road for the last 3 or so hours of the drive.

First night in the new diggings was mostly a success. We discovered that the air mattress we had before is leaking too fast to be of help. We had to pump it back up several times in the night. But other than that, all was well.  Currently sitting in the living room enjoying the first cup of coffee in the new place.

Later on we’ll be mattress shopping, and then out to Seeley Lake for the afternoon.

Too much time in the kitchen today. Got about 2 gallons of salsa simmering on the stove right now. Eyes are mostly recovered from shredding 6 cups of onions. Wore rubber gloves to work with the serrano peppers, so no damage from them. Probably let it cool down and put in the fridge and can it tomorrow, after a taste test to be sure it's right.

Lead obtained from the mineral/ore Galena, the most common lead ore contains trace amount of cobalt and nickel which don't hurt most lead alloys and does not have enough value in such small amounts to be worth extracting. ;)

Hit 103 yesterday however humidity was only 26% suppose to change over the next 24 hours. Already cooler this morning 73 degrees to start.

Went along for the ride to feed store yesterday, with Suzanne. We decided we needed to take a chance and stopped at Waffle House for breakfast.  It was a good experience short of mask requirements. I felt bad for the employees being mandated to wear them.

Then got inside and found out their AC was broke) It, too was a silk bandana. Missouri has no mask mandate, and if a business requires one, I just go somewhere else. Used to do 90% of our shopping at Wal Mart, and I don't really miss that place at all.

Morning all.

Last night was far too exciting for my taste.   I went to Walmart around 5, and on the way home had planned on stopping at Napa to see about a new hitch,  and the gas station. The  Future Mrs. TK was About 15 miles away looking into a barn.  Anyway, I stepped out of Walmart and felt a sudden urge to get home, so I started back, and what do you know, the hill behind my new house was on fire.  I got home just before they closed the road,  and was able to toss the important stuff in the truck. I couldn’t get ahold of my other half, so I decided to stay put.  They hit it hard with a couple helicopters, and got it out at 10 acres. They’re still mopping up, stomping the coals out and spraying the smoldering stumps, but we’re safe now.

Anyway, plan for today is class, laundry, and a couple stores.

TK glad you are both are OK, and nothing was lost.
Around here the air is so thick with smoke you could cut it with a knife.  I can’t tell for sure where the Sun is, or if there are any clouds above the smoke layer.
Normally this would mean we should button up and turn on the air, but NV Energy is asking everyone to cut back on consumption because of the heat.
All the fires affecting us are just over the border in CA, but the winds are blowing the smoke right into the Truckee Meadows where is just sits between our two mountain ranges.  Luckily containment is increasing on the largest of the fires and most of the others.
Just have to hunker down and hold our breath awhile longer.

I’ll stir the coals for the night crew.

Long day today.  While the future-Mrs was out horsing about at this new barn, I went around town to try and track down a trailer sway control kit for this long trip we’re about to embark on. Most places (Autozone, O’reilly, Napa) have them at the warehouse, but with a delivery date several days after we leave. I tried a bunch of places, finally got one at Murdoch’s for $65.  So that is one more check off the list.
After this, we went to a couple places to look for furniture for our very empty place. We managed to get a squeaky computer chair. Close enough.
I stopped by the airport to inquire about a job. While I was in the office at a mechanic place, I was chatting with the office lady, and one of my C-130s happened to taxi by outside. So that was perfect timing. I may be getting a job there operating their fuel farm, which is better than nothing.

The final part I’ll mention in this long winded post is that a friend of my parent’s died yesterday by his own hand. He was 90.

Speaking of cooking, today was render tomatoes down into sauce for refrigerating day.

The majority of the crop all decided to ripen at once this past week, so into the spaghetti pot they went this morning with garlic and herbs. Simmered 6 hours.
Started off with 5 gals. of fruit and finished up with 1 1/2 gals. sauce.

I've been making salsa but I'm about to have enough of that and just start making tomato sauce. Fortunately, I think I've got enough canning lids to finish out the year. It seems like they've become the new toilet paper (or 9mm/5.56 ammo, primers, or who knows what's next). Sure, they're available on E-bay- if you don't mind paying nearly A DOLLAR A PIECE!!! I even saw somebody listed "once used" canning lids!

The future Mrs was off doing horse things, so I wasn’t too worried about timing or anything. Anyway, I make it out to Bonner outside of Missoula and stopped for a candy bar and some water because I forgot my bottle on the counter at home. Get back out, and the truck won’t start. Won’t even turn over. I think it’s the starter, but I won’t know until Monday.  I don’t have the tools or space to work on it myself right now, so I had to have it towed to a mechanic. I have AAA , so that’s a plus I guess.

It was very odd. Cast was really out there. Brando was really over the top on this.  I found I could not turn it off.

I lived and worked on a ranch in the “Breaks” that was area they depicted in the movie.
The ranch had a remains of a dugout cabin, the owner said, was used by horse and cattle thief’s. It was 10 or more years afterwards that I seen this movie.

Whipped up some guacamole for nachos and a movie. I found Appaloosa and downloaded it. However it has Indian subtitles. See if I can watch without being distracted.

A mostly cloudy with a few brief rain showers yesterday. Cooled down the day from mid 80's to mild very present upper 70's by late afternoon.

I have decided to sell one of my J-Frames a Mod. 60 in .357. I'll consign it to my LGS Tomorrow ( he's Closed on Mondays )

I have several J-frames and I have the gumption to pass this one on   sell while gun sales are HOT

Major 2, I have a pair of J-frames, a 342 PD and a Model 60 Ladysmith I bought for my mother, Both in .38 special, I don't think it would be pleasant to fire off a .357 mag in a 11 ounce J-frame, The model 60 might be a little less violent... ;) ;)

It's not bad with Hornady 38 Critical Defense but unpleasant with  .357  would be better I suppose with pachmayr like grips.

It is also too bling with the SS & Pearl grips... just to fru fru for my tastes , it would work for a New Orleans cathouse

My Dear Major -
that is a wise choice.
A J frame in .357 is not my idea of pleasant. And if one MUST have a J-frame in .357, my opinion is to give
it at LEAST a 3" barrel so it does not burn the hand the feeds it. The Fireball at the muzzle and force cone is terribly wicked
on the short barrels..... not to mention the possibility for medical attention to the recoil-crippled hand afterwards....

I must admit when it comes to the idea of a "ppocket pistol" , the old .44 spcl Charter Bulldogs were hard to beat.
And when I found I had "as good" or better performance out of a slimmer package ( ie airweight colt officers) I went that route.

What amazed me was the weight

The SS Smith Mod 60  weight is 22.58 oz. empty ...
My Sig 365  with a loaded 12 round Mag is  23. 2 oz.
so the Sig is about 1/2 oz. heavier w/ 12 round loaded VS 5 round capacity empty revolver ...

I have a Mod 36  in both 2" & a 3"  inch barrels and use Hornady 38 Critical Defense,
as I did with Mod 60, In it and the Mod 36's nice recovery and decent groupings
with .357's no bueno coming back on target with the Mod.60
Down the road it will go  :)

Evening all.

Quite a day today. It started off by watching a crackhead change her underwear on the side of main street, followed less than five minutes later by a motorcycle cop dropping his bike while dismounting.

My truck was... an ordeal.  Got the starter and battery cables replaced. One would think that might be a reasonable sum of money, but $600 does not fit that description.  Upon inspection, they installed a chrome/stainless starter. I’m not sure the reasoning behind a shiny starter is, but I’m not a fan. Remind me to do my own starter work in the future.

Also, somehow 5 of my oil pan bolts went missing at some point in the past two weeks. ???  I have it Jerry rigged with Ace screws until my set of OeM parts arrive.

In other news: my mother will be arriving in Kalispell aboard an Amtrak in the morning, to accompany us to Kentucky, so we’ll be picking her up then.
