Title: WPG trousers
Post by: pony express on February 04, 2018, 05:23:25 PM
Does this look like the correct color for enlisted trousers after the "sky blue" of the civil war were used up, specifically SAW time period? I thought they were darker blue. I went to look at the Quartermaster Shop for reference, but they seem to have stopped offering any blue trousers later than the 1884 sky blue ones.

oops... forgot the link!

They look good to me.  Especially at that price!  As you say, officially the shade was darkened at that time, but there was so much variation in dyes from the contractors that you can hardly tell.

You recon this royal blue color was the genesis of the white infantry leg stripe and shoulder strap

Ordered and received the blue wool trousers, as well as a pair of 1889 leggings. Quality is great as well as the fit of the trousers. However, the leggings turned out to be a bit big. Ordered size 5 based on the top measurement of 18", fit is not bad at the top, but the ankle measurement of 14" is really big, big enough I'm concerned they won't stay laced. I'm debating whether to exchange, try to sell and order a smaller size, or "take them in" some. Anybody out there need a set of size 5 Leggings?

I might need them.  Let me measure my calf and get back to you tonight.

Sent back the size 5 and ordered size 3, they arrived today, as well as a blue Mills 100 round belt(infantry), and a leather belt with US buckle. The Muster is getting closer, but things are coming together.

No, the reason the infantry went to white was that the sky blue stripes quickly faded to nearly white anyway.
