"Shane"
« on: November 29, 2019, 11:21:21 AM »
"Shane" was on the toob recently and of course I had to watch it - again for the umpteenth time. Love it even tho' Alan Ladd just seemed too squeaky clean to have been a gun fighter.

The two brawls in the movie have to be the best ever in a western movie!

Jack Palance was the epitome of a cold hearted killer. All the Cowboys looked the part.

The backdrop of the Grand Teton mountains added greatly, the way they just rise up out of the plain.

"Shane! Come back, Shane!"

Agreed! Brandon Dewilde was insipid and so was his Mom.

Van Heflin played the part well, but he could have been a little sharper in noticing the chemistry between his wife and Shane.

Pale Rider is essentially the same story with a more mystical bent Andy had the same issue with it, girl was annoying.  Mother in Pale Rider was a bit more believable.   Parlance, Van Cleef, Elam would have been a fearsome group if the could have paired them as the antagonists.

I remember watching it when I was a kid and I didn't like it. I will watch it today later when I finish with my search of
apartments for sale in Algarve Portugal here for work. Maybe today I will watch it with different eyes and will enjoy it, who knows...

Jack Palance will always make a credible bad guy.  He did in Shane, too.  The rest of the movie and the cast was a cringe-worthy soap opera - especially that irritating kid with the chapped lips.  Awful.
