Chiappa Sharps M1863/68 .50-70: Update.
« on: March 25, 2018, 07:22:49 PM »
64 BP rounds fired today, no cleaning.  Temperature mid 40s, humidity around 60%.  No observed drop off in accuracy, lands and grooves still clearly defined.  Every case cleanly ejected after firing.  Clean up was a cup of water poured into the breach of the rifle, held vertical, using a small collapse-able kitchen funnel, followed by 2 dry patches, then 2 oil patches.

Probably more than anything a testament to the amount of lubricant carried by the 515/450 Government bullet.

-Lee 515-450, 90% beeswax, 10% olive oil lube.  Drops .513, unsized and pan lubed.
-65 grains OE 3f
-WLR primer
-Starline brass
-24" drop tube, .1" compression, 2.2" oal, light roll crimp

This was a steel plate combat match, however we did  have a scored paper target at 50 yards in one stage, and that had 3 rounds around 1.5".  This was from standing inside a structure with the rifle rested on a window sill, on the clock.  The carbine put the rounds where I wanted them.

Been shooting this load all winter,  it shows 3 MOA or better consistently, is hell on armadillo's, a fine field/combat load.  This was the first time I'd put it thru an extended firing course, nice to see it and the carbine held up well.
