Title: EMF Hartfords -ASM
Post by: Broomhandle on May 04, 2015, 11:00:55 AM
I have 2 of these, one is 4 3/4" and the other is 7 1/2" barrel. I installed a Wolff 32280 reduced power spring in the 4 3/4" and it worked fine. When I installed the same spring in the long barrel, the hammer roller slips off of the spring. Is there a similar spring that is a dab longer ?

Wish I could help. I ran into the same problem a few years ago with a ASM 51 Navy. I tried three different springs--standard Colt, Wolfe and I forget the other--nothing was long enough. I just put the ASM spring back in and hoped for the best. No longer have the gun. I did try something--I elongated the screw hole on a Wolfe spring so it would ride forward. It actually worked but you had to fuss around with the spring when tightening the mainspring screw. I believe I even used a lock washer. Not an elegant solution, but sometimes you get desperate.

VTI has a reduced spring that will be long enough, just tell them that you   need the long version.

Thanks much for the good solutions you both came up with.

Contacted VTI and although they had reduced power springs for ASM Hartfords, longer springs were not carried. I was told that he had some ASM springs that were longer than Colt springs when he compared them. Received them today and will try them tomorrow. They are narrower in the middle, not slotted in the middle.
Hope it works.

The VTI mainsprings are longer and fit my ASM Hartford 7 1/2" perfectly.
Thanks again Lefty Dude for the help.
