Wild Bunch or The Barracks ?
« on: September 18, 2021, 04:38:14 PM »
I first posted this if interested,  to Wild Bunch or more to The Barracks.
But decided, Maybe the Leather Forum might be the huckleberry.

So here it is  ....

I had never seen these or knew they existed, but found it quite interesting
1911 Navy Pistol Racks , they are two sided ( holds 6  1911's )
this particular one sold for $195 on the COLT  Forum.

So I did a little search, and found 3 more listed on eBay at   :o  some big dollars .

Anyway I decided I wanted a replica for my reloading room / war room wall

Here is my replica , I still have the straps & stud keepers to add , and a bit of aging perhaps  :-\

May be a bit of a stretch for the leather forum  ???

Very cool.  I saw it in the Barracks and it may be on my todo list for cap and ball pistols.

That's a fine item. I like it a lot. I never knew they existed. There must have been a rack or box they slipped down into in the armory. thanks for posting this.

Looks great! That's a fine piece. It looks good on your wall.

Years ago I had a rubber stamp kit with different sizes of upper and lower case letters and numbers. Some thing like that would do the trick well. I have no idea what one would cost but they must be available at a craft store. You may pay less to just have a stamp made, though.

Not the same, but considerably easier and less expensive maybe: Print it onto a piece of (brown?) paper and glue or découpage it onto the board?

Major 2,

Very nice project and looks great all the way around.  Impressive room decor also.

So as a suggestion for the text -- look for the Avery glossy clear printable labels.  Here is a link to a 2"x 4" label on Amazon:::

https://www.amazon.com/Avery-Glossy-Crystal-Address-Printers/dp/B078HHB584/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=2PZJG4I6PIUS8&dchild=1&keywords=avery+clear+labels+for+inkjet+printer&qid=1632185695&sprefix=avery+clear+labels%2Caps%2C204&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExQ0xGTjQ3Q0dKVFlHJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTM5MzY0MVNHVjFOUUUwWUlNRiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNDU4ODE1MjJLMTAwVjgxRk03RCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Did not look for a small size because I cannot judge board space available.  But you get your correct sizing.  I think it will look better, if it blends into the wood grain.

Thanks BRS & Abilene

I think I'll check with Staples , maybe they have an option

BRS-   not sure about the gloss label as it may not adhere to the wood surface to well ,and may cause air bubbles .

Abilene- the stamp is the front runner " if its not to costly. for a 1 off use "  I have contacted a stamp maker.

Maybe the  decoupage idea on thin onion skin paper, it may all but blend out ... :-\

Hi Major,
You could have a stensil made, spray paint it and then complete with a sharpy.    My dad would do that back in the day (although it was an ElMarko rather than a Sharpy)

Another thought, but caveat is that I have not tried it.   There are ways to transfer inkjet and laser printed materials to wood and leather.    I think you just need to print it as a mirror image and then use a solvent to transfer it to wood.  There are some tutorials on youtube.    If it works let me know, as I have some other items I have thought about doing it with.

Here you go. Upload your own graphics. Looks like $15-22 depending on the size. No fiddling around with something that's not authentic looking. All you need is an ink pad or you could probably just wipe some ink on it and get the impression right.

Pretty neat. I have never seen those but you did a good job replicating it. Pretty cool room overall also.
