Coffee and tea are hot.

'Tis 21 and flurries. "Light snow. Snow accumulation of 2 to 3 inches. Highs in the middle 30s. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow 90 percent."

Gunsmithing / Re: Making stag grips
« Last post by wildman1 on March 24, 2024, 07:04:04 AM »
I made a set of elk grips for a set of rugers I have. They came out great. I used Birchwood  filler and sealer then finished them with Birchwood Tru oil That I got from Brownells. I coated the inside of the grips with a good slow dry epoxy and used a hair drier set on low to get it to soak into the grain. The epoxy I used is about the same color as the grips and takes about two weeks to really set completely.

Funny thing is, I did not expect to have a No. 3 American drop into my life, literally.  I had been working on a stand alone historical article for the Chronicle on the S&W American.  Then the planets aligned and I have modified it into part one of a two part article on the Cimarron No. 3 American.  Part one (the history), will possibly be in the July 2024 Chronicle.  Part Two, Mike's efforts and a review of the revolver, should be in October 2024.

I'll do testing with several loads: Black Hills .44 Russian, some factory .44 Colt, some standard 246 grain .44 Special, and my original 44 Russian factory duplication load of 5.3 grains of Unique under a Bear Creek 246 conical .44 Russian .429 bullet.

The Winchester Model 1892 / Re: Slicking up a Miroku 92?

IF it shares the issue of an overly strong ejector spring in the bolt like other brands, then replacing that will make it close easier when chambering a round. Otherwise, I'm ignorant of the Mirokus. Lightening the main spring, maybe. If you polish the locking bolts, remove NO metal.

The Winchester Model 1892 / Slicking up a Miroku 92?
« Last post by Doc Holloman on March 23, 2024, 03:24:11 PM »
I have a Miroku 92 in .38-40.  I originally picked it up for Wild Bunch (figuring power factor would make it competitive) but the last couple of matches I have noticed that the slow levering is really eating into my time, and now with the tricked out .38 73s showing up, if this gun is going to avoid becoming a safe queen, I am going  to need to up it's game.
Anyone out there slicking up the Miroku?
