Tell me about Black Powder in your Rodeos.
« on: December 17, 2005, 07:57:17 AM »
Lookin' for a Colt style revolver to shoot blackpowder.  How do your Rodeos do with BP?  If you do use BP do they have BP frames?  I certainly appreciate any info you can pass along to me.

Thanks,
LCR

There's got to be somebody out there that uses BP in their Rodeos??

I may have to "google" this one for an answer!  :)

I shoot a lot of BP through my two premium USFA's and 3rd gen Colt with cross pinned frames.  Just pull the cylinder, lube the base pin and bushing with BP grease.  I grease over the first bullet in every group, when I remember to, just like a cap and ball pistol.  I always smear a bit of lube on the frame below the cross pin as that keeps the powder fouling soft there for easy clean up.  The nickel plated gun is easier to clean up then the silver plated or the blue gun.  The 3 guns have tight cyliner to barell spacing and tend to want to hang up, but a cup of water poured on the gun frees up everything.  I cast and load my own and have used different lubes and bullet styles.  The latest bullet is the 250 gn Lyman with a large grease groove.  My latest lube is essentially beeswax and Crisco.

Yup.  I occassionally shoot BP or subs in my Rodeos.  Have not had any problems with either.  Shot a 2 day match with 777 and didn't clean them till it was all over.  Still no problems.

To prep for BP use I clean the dickens out of them, degrease 'em, and lube with bore butter.

Try it, you'll like it.

Best,
