Title: Winchester Model 1892 lever action rifle
Post by: ScottARawls on April 22, 2022, 05:21:15 AM: I am the owner of Winchester Model 1892 lever action rifle chambered in .38 cal WC. I am not sure about which cartridge is appropriate? How many cartridges does a Winchester 1892 hold?

Post by: Coal Creek Griff on April 22, 2022, 10:00:16 AM: As King noted, "38 WCF" stands for "38 Winchester Center Fire', which was Winchester's name for the .38-40 cartridge. The rifle will only safely shoot .38-40 ammunition. It isn't sold at every small gunshop or Walmart, but it can be found. It's an excellent cartridge in an excellent gun.

Post by: cactus joe on April 25, 2022, 08:26:35 PM: Like has been said just load it up and see. I have a 1892 in .25-20. The most i have loaded in it is 10. Not sure if it will hold more. After i shoot the 10 it seems like i spend 20 minutes or so just looking for my brass! >:(

Post by: Abilene on April 26, 2022, 01:30:36 AM: Cactus Joe, if you lighten the ejector spring inside the bolt, it won't fling the brass so far. The spring Nate Kiowa Jones sells for Rossis fit in my 32-20 '92 and really tamed the ejection plus stopped nicking the case mouths.

Will actually depend on barrel and magazine length 20 inchers 10 in a 24 inch may get 1 or 2 more 16 inch a couple less than 10

Post by: Modoc on May 05, 2022, 06:41:09 PM: If I remember correctly, I can fit 12 in the magazine of my 24” 25-20 WCF 1892, and I know that we can fit 10 357 mag in the wife’s Browning ‘92 magazine. We don’t bother with 38’s in the Browning because it will not feed reliably (same with my dad’s converted 1892 TD) so we load all rifle in 357. I can get 11 38’s in my 20” Uberti 1873 for an on the clock reload.

Kinda wish I’d kept the 38 WCF 1892 Rifle, but needed a 38/357 for Jr. to shoot.
