Ah, that explains things a bit easier to this Midwestern dunce. Years ago I had used a piece of leather on my 1st saa, which I still have, a wedding present from my bride of 31 years. It worked fine till I saved up enough cash for a proper tuning.

It is not the same gun in Cas City Forum Colt Firearms  "Picked Up Another Colt 1877 Thunderer"?

The 1917 holster is one of my favorite's.
My Dad had this one for his S&W Hand Ejector he carried as a Coast Guard Volunteer, Coast Watch Mosquito fleet in the early Months of 1942.

Seen here with my S&W 1917 Revolver and below that is Dad's hand ejector

NO!!  Just NO!!  Been there.  Done that.  About 20 some years ago.  The reset time is just horrendous.  Said reset time stops posse progress DEAD.  It's a cutesie idea but in practice, it SUCKS.

My posse is 10 guys on a good day so we can afford longer reset times. We commonly do things like clay throwers and Texas stars.

Do you have a photo of the pistol you could post? 1878 DAs are among my favorites.

I will take a photo and post it when I get back home.

Quote from: Abilene on March 12, 2025, 08:01:19 PMWhat type of brass are you using?  I have limited myself to Winchester, Starline, and Black Hills (made by Starline I think) since they have the thinnest necks.  All other brands are thicker and I could only use .427 in those.

I use Starline almost exclusively.  I would need to check to see if there is anyone else's brass, but I am pretty sure for the .44-40 it is all Starline.

Been a looong time, but we had one at the match at Durango. IIRC, I used a Spencer carbine .56-56, and it took me a couple of shots to hit the rope.
