Good morning, thanks for the coffee .....

would anyone venture an opinion as to what I have here ?

I was just given this Night Scope, I believe it is Viet Nam era , but scopes are out of my wheel house.

Has the case, with a tag (3rd photo ) that it stored in and a mount , I was told for an M16 ?
It seems in good cond. Optic's are clear and no fogging .
Looks like it would take a single D cell battery ? ( its clean with no corrosion )
There is a tag with rebuild code @ S.A.A.D indicated 8547 ,  ( second photo )

It will go in the Museum War Room display

So far I have researched

(SAAD)  Sacramento Army Depot

6 pound passive starlight PVS 2s were considered state of the art when it came to the capabilities of U.S. troops fighting at night. The scope first entered service at the height of the Vietnam War 67-69 and despite its cumbersome size and ridiculous weight, it did prove its use among Soldiers and Marines in their patrol bases. It was probably too heavy to carry out on many patrols, but as a rifle equipped with one on a post at night where mobility wasn’t an issue, it could be a force multiplier, especially when the Viet Cong wanted to strike or probe the lines at night.

Original batteries are unobtainable, however a conversion block for 4  AA batteries is made.

Major 2 we called them a “star light scope” that one was mounted on a M16 - the down fault was its weight. Secondly you don’t want to be looking through it when you are firing. It would be like Arc Welding with out a good.

I have used one for perimeter watch.

Morning all.

Sunny in Missoula, heading for 65.

I have a wedding to be at before too long. Coworker is getting married on the hydraulic lift gate of a flatbed F650. Not my first choice of wedding venues, but to each their own.

Good to see you back Roo.

Wow, made 99% on O2 this morning when I got up, still 96% after being up and doing things.    Much better than the 93%-95% last weekend.

That is one of those foods I have never tried,

I have a list  ::)  I won't eat,  but the list has been somewhat reduced & crossed off as I got older.

example - Orca...you could not force me to eat that *H*T  ( except I did finally try it fried this year in fact , did not hate it )
Pigs feet.... NOPE !

Rhubarb  = nope
Mincemeat pie ... eh no....

but .... Broccoli, asparagus, Brussel sprouts,  were once on the list, and now not !

So there is a chance (though very very small ) I might try rotten cabbage kim chee  ....eh maybe not !
